how do you get discounts or codes on car rentals?

Can anyone offer any insight on how to get the best deals (i.e codes or discounted rates) on car rentals? This is an area I am very unfamiliar with.

I use coupons from the Entertainment Book and the codes from www.mousesavers.com. Also, register with the car rental websites for emails on deals.

I usually start by doing a car rental search on travelocity to find out which company has the best deals at the moment for my travel dates.

I then take the cheapest 2 or 3 rental companies and do google searches using something like, for example, "budget rental discount codes" and just keeping trying different searches until I come up with something.

I then go to the rental companies home site to plug in the codes to see what I can come up with. It's ALOT of trial and error but usually ends up working out pretty well.

Also, after I have reserved a rental, I keep re-checking up until my departure date because the deals usually get sweeter if it's a low travel season and they need to fill bookings. Hope this helps...

plus it's hit or miss as well one day great rate the next way higher.

the good thing is if you get a rate and it goes down most have no penalties for canceling the first one.

Mousesavers is very good . Also check out the convention sights for the town you are going to .
