How do you feel about leaving your dog in a good kennel while you are at WDW?????

We are getting a puppy soon, but I have some real reservations about this kennel thing. We go to WDW several times each year and have no one to watch a dog, so we will have to board her. We have found some nice kennels, but I don't know how I will feel leaving her there. Has anyone else felt this way???????

she stayed a grand total of three times out of our disney trips.....then we were able to get our daughter to care for her at our own home....she stressed when we were gone....but the welcome homes were awesome....if you can not get someone to come to the house ....maybe three times a day..and spend time with her...then start interviewing and looking the kennels over....Jasmine went to a good one that they even played with the doggies.....they were so good to her

I'll be honest and say it feels pretty bad! :(

And it doesn't get any better. Our dog has been kennelled many times over the last 5 years and he doesn't like it any more than we do! But we don't have any other choice. Our families live 3 hours away, and I don't trust an "in home pet sitter." No thanks, I don't want a total stranger coming into my house!

For that matter, I don't wany anyone coming into my house when I'm not there!

The only alternative is to stay home.

We got a puppy about a year ago. Since then we've only been camping, to visit family, and a vacation to the beach where she went with us. It was sort of tough having her on vacation since it was summer and she gets overheated and carsick! We are definately not taking her on vacation this next year and I've been worrying about it already.

I think we've got it figured out though. A good friend and her family are going to WDW at the end of the summer. Our trip to the midwest is at the beginning of the summer. We'll take turns with each other's dogs. If this hadn't worked, we were even considering driving her 400 miles to stay with my parents! We just can't bear to think of her in a kennel for three weeks. I was also planning on putting the word out at church and school for dogsitters. Before I got a dog, I remember thinking it would be fun to "rent" a dog that we could give back without the lifetime responsibility - there must be people out there who would like to do the same occasionally.

I know there's nothing wrong with a good kennel, but I think I'd have to try it overnight or for short trips.

I never leave our dog in a Kennel. My way of thinking is that our dog is part of our family & as much as I would dearly love to take him with us when we go away, it just isn't possible.

So, he has a holiday with my Mum & Brother. Without them a holiday of any sort would be so out of the question for us, as a kennel would be the end of our pooch. He is a people dog & loves being around us humans & to leave him in a Kennel while we went off & had a holiday would be the end of me too. I just couldn't do it.:(

I used to feel bad about kenneling our Sassy Girl, but then I found the perfect kennel :) We pay a little more but they keep her in what they call the "condo" and someone walks her 3 times a day plus someone goes and spends 20 minutes twice a day, playing with her, one on one.

We've boarded her there three times and she isn't laryngitic (from barking) when we pick her up, since she has stayed there. She is happy when we take her there.

I feel much better sending our Sassy Girl to this kennel :) I don't feel guilty any more :)

I hate it! I don't trust anyone, and one of my kids has separation anxiety. :( I hope I can find someone trustworthy to keep them while I'm away. I barely go anywhere as it is, mainly because of them. But, they are great and worth it!

You could be a foster family for a rescue group, but I can't imagine wanting to give one up after getting attached.

I feel bad when I drop him off, but I try to think of it as a vacation for him also. Sometimes he gets very excited, other times he doesn't seem so thrilled. We usually try to kennel no more than a few times a year. My next door neighbor will watch him for short weekend trips. I don't feel totally safe leaving him at home, what if there was a fire or something else catastrophic. A kennel is probably the safest place for him to be, I don't have to worry about him running away or not listening to someone else. I am really the only one he obeys. I usually get over feeling terrible, enjoy my vacation and look forward to picking him up again. Most times we have another neighbor get him and drop him off at our house, so he is here the minute we walk in the door.

Had to put both ours in the kennel (for the first time last yr for a disney trip). I have 2 rat terriers so at least they had each other.
A friend of mine kept in touch with the kennel and us to let us know how it was going.
The owner of the kennel told my friend that he had only one question for the owners of the terriers, he wanted to know why on earth would anyone want two of them!
They are very hyper dogs, bark alot and chewed up alot of blankets while they were they. thank goodness they didn't charge extra for all the blankets. They were in heaven barking at all the big dogs!!

We have been using the same kennel for probably 8 or 10 years. the dogs know the man who runs it. The dogs are always glad to see us when we get home but never put up a huge fight about going in. It is the cost for boarding two dogs that I balk at, but we don't have a choice.
