How do you feel about DRIVE THRUS?

Do most cities have a drive through grocery? I lived in the US for almost 30 years in 4 different states and never saw one.

I know that I would have loved one when the kids were sick then. As it is I am in trouble if anything happens here because the Commisary is 45 minutes away and never open during those middle of the night sicknesses.:headache:

In Phoenix we would just go to any number of nearby grocery stores.:cloud9: Convienence. None of them were drive thrus though.

No drive thru grocery stores in my neck of the woods. But I wish there was when all I want is a half gallon of milk and some whole grain bread for breakfast the next day. 5 in a drive thru is better than 20 in the store.

I agree. That would be awesome.

I don't need an excuse to use a drive thru. I like the convenience, I use it. Simple as that.

Thank you! That's my point. People don't need drive-thrus. So, if a convience store doesn't have one and people are forced to walk inside and buy milk, it's not the end of the world. Remember...that's where this whole topic started.

Again I don't see why you are so worked up about it. It's a persons personal choice to use a drive thru or not. It in no way affects you so I don't know why you are being so adamant about this.

I guess that I disagree. There are two ways that the current excessive drive-thru usage affects me. I'll highlight them very simply:

1. I think that unnecessary convience items, which drive-thrus are but one, are hurting society. Because a large number of people are dependent on them, it will eventually take away the more traditional, non-convience items that many of us prefer to use. (Look at what's happening to local speciality shops because people are demanding the convience of big box stores, for example.) Many of these more traditional items and services are better for our health, for our socialization, for our economy, and for our mental health.

2. Drive-thrus specifically are bad for the environment. (See many of my other posts for more on this.) This is the environment that belongs to me as much as it belongs to you.

Where do you buy your milk? A boutique??? I don't see milk and bread as unnecessary convience items.

I just order everything from Peapod. I don't even have to get out of my chair
I'm jealous.
I just spent 2hrs in the grocery store here on base with the 2 little one (that was fun:rolleyes: ....NOT). Now I'm exhausted & have to put everything away.

I wish they delivered out here.

Boy, I don't remember anyone saying it is the end of the world if we don't have them. We are just defending your accusation that people who use them are lazy. It is a convenience, and we are entitled to use it.

Societies change. There is no getting around it. Many changes from tradiciton are also better for our health, socialization and for our mental health.

And if I promise to not idle my car while I am in the drive thru - as many drive thrus request these days, is it o.k?

I will repeat - if you ever have children, I think your opinions on a lot of matters, including the proper use of drive-thrus, will change.

All this talk about drive thrus have got me craving some DD coffee (no Starbucks in town :sad1: ). Gonna head out there after I (along with the 2 younger kids) pick up #1DS from school & I'm going thru the drive thru :woohoo:

Then we will have to get rid of internet shopping, phone orders, and ready made foods that are prepared in those plastic containers, and much, much more. Have you heard the side effects of cell phones, microwaves, plastic bags? They are cutting into the specialty shops profit margin, clogging up our landfills, and expanding our backsides.

There are pro's and con's to each and every topic and while I do commend you for speaking about what you believe in, you should also be accepting of other peoples beliefs as well. I guess what alot of peoples problem is it appears that you are failing to see things from any other window but your own.

a quickie mart thing for the basics or medicine is a great idea! I cant tell you how many time I have had to take a sick baby into a store for something when I just didnt have any other options.

Now the drive thru beer and wine store in a town I used to visit was conveying the wrong message I think......

No most places dont that I am aware of. And the one near me is not a full blown grocery store(although our grocery stores do have online delivery too, so we are REALLY lazy around here:lmao: ) it is more like a 7-11, you can get the basics and a few other things.

Although I grew up with one near me, and always loved their milk and the convience. Well a bunch of people from my neck of the woods have migrated out here, and we were missing our Swiss Farms big time. I thought I was the only wacky one who actually sent the company an email and said you should set up shop out here. I told two of my friends and one had already beaten me to it:laughing:

So they since have built two out this way and we are waiting for our third. When the first one came out here my phone was ringing off the hook about it we were so excitied. It is the little things:goodvibes

I am surprised with all the other drive thru things that are around they havent expanded and caught on elsewhere. I was surprised when I read the Dairy Barn thread and thought "oh they do have them other places"

You can go take a flying leap for all I care right now. Your opinion means nothing to me. And again how does a person using a drive thru affect you? Oh that is right...it actually doesn't. You may have time to waste going inside to do things but many of us don't. Again like I said my time to do things like run errands is scarce.

And you may like the local specialty shops but around here specialty means EXPENSIVE. No one is telling you that you can't shop there. But I don't think you should criticize others for not some people like me simply can't afford to shop at them and can afford big box stores like Target. If I can get my clothes cheaper at Target than a local store I will do it. I can get my prescriptions cheaper at Walmart without my insurance than I can at a local pharmacy with my insurance.

Plus if I get it filled at the local Walmart Neighborhood Market I can drop off and pick up my prescription at the drive thru with no wait. Plus if it is below freezing outside and I have the flu there is no way in he** that I am parking in the back of the lot where there is parking and walking into the store, fighting the crowds and waiting in line just to pick up my meds. NO WAY. And I know that if I am on vacation and my bag gets lost and or I need a refill I can go to any Walmart and they can pull up my patient history in their computer and I can get my meds. Can't do that with a local pharmacy.

So you may think that all these conveniences are ruining our society. Well let me tell you...what you think and what the reality is...are two totally different things. So get off your high horse already and stop with the holier than thou attitude.

Well I might as well shock all of you now. I sometimes even have my groceries delivered.:snooty: The horrors I know.:scared1: If my choices are to drag 4 small children to the store in miserable weather or order from home and have it delievered- well delivery wins out. So Mrs and Mrs Smith- sometimes I can't just "cook them a meal" because we are waiting for a food delivery!:rotfl:

So there you have it. I am just a humungous blob with a head and 2 small hands so I can point and click.:lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Don't feel too bad I've had to go, acouple of times, to 3 drive thru cause not everyone in the house wanted the same thing. :sad2: I'm soooo ashamed

:rotfl2:

been there, too! So not only am I lazy X3, but I am overindulgent of my kids individual desires..

And all of us healthy folks are very glad you did just that, stayed in you car, got what you needed to get healthy and did not spread it to everyone else!:worship:

They even got me some OTC meds and protien bars to eat. I may not like Walmart all that much but with service like that...I will go back.

Yeah, keep your "creepin" crud inside your car to yourself!:rotfl:

I actually rolled down my window at bus stops and stoplights to cough and sneeze as loud as I could. Also went to a packed college basketball game. I had to spread the love somehow.

I hope everyone will be happy to hear that my daughters chose fast food Chinese for lunch, as opposed to fast food Moe's, McDonald's or Wendy's, which are all drive throughs, and I had to PARK MY CAR and WALK inside to pick the order up. And I made it a point to chat pleasantly with both the customer waiting in line next to me and the nice young woman who manages the Chinese restaurant. So, I've done my part today, and offset my carbon footprint which was increased as a result of this morning's drive throughs. Whew, I'm exhausted.....

:rotfl2: Be sure to go through the bank drive-thru though on your way home to offset any of the excercise you got from getting the chinese food!! :thumbsup2

This is inspired by a post about a drive thru convience store, in my town we have a drive thru convience store where you can buy milk, bread and other things and just pull up in your car. I said they were great thing to use if you have kids, either sleeping, sick, or if someone was elderly you dont have to get out of the car.

Another poster says this is hurting ourselves, teaching our children to be lazy, and hurting our environment.

So do you use them, what for? The bank, fast food etc.

And what is your opinion? Would you want a drive thru convience store in your town?

Didn't really use them too much before I had a kid, but with one still in a car seat, I really  them, now! I especially love the drive-thru bank teller.:thumbsup2 Now, I wouldn't use a drive-thru convenience store since I don't go to convenience stores at all...and when I do shop, I have to actually paw each item, read ingredients, etc. At the very least, I would order online through Peapod, if I had to. That way I could see the items online before purchasing. But I have no objection to there being a drive-thru store in my town. :confused3 I have no idea who that other poster is, but we are not lazy people, nor are we oblivious to the environment. We reduce, reuse, and recycle. We garden and compost. This week we have gone: grocery shopping, to church/Sunday school, to yoga, to music lessons, to water aerobics, to the playground, skiing, ice skating, to art class, out to lunch and dinner (once each), overnight to Gramma's house (ds only), to storytime, visiting friends in their home, and to the zoo. We also (gasp, horror!) went to the drive-thru teller, TWICE!!! :scared1: If that is teaching my child to be lazy or inactive, then the world is REALLY screwed. :rolleyes1
