This afternoon I was told my contract wasn't being renewed for next year. So basically "you're fired." I'm not sure why. I am a team player, I never say "no," I love my job, I sit on committees, I cover for people, I participate in everything. I was just told this year was rough and they were going in another direction.

I am blindsided. I was never given any indication that I was a terrible employee. Nothing at all.

I love the people I work with and can't imagine not going to work with them everyday.

And I have to cancel my trip to see my husband because I can't spend that kind of money when I am not sure of when I will get a job.

I feel like a complete loser. :sad1:

it isnt about you, its about money. Youre not a loser, youre in a lost environment.

It isn't about money. They are hiring right now. It was me I guess and I;m so embarassed.

I'm so sorry. That is really such a blow. I hope that something even better comes along real soon.

Dang, you nailed that one perfectly. :thumbsup2

MM, keep your head up, this is just the start of somethin' new for you.

is it self esteem you are lacking??? Dont beat yourself up. You assume it you; but received no indication that it was you. Why wouldnt they tell you if they did not like you. They have nothing to lose.

My company hires and fires people at the same time. One department may need help while another is overstaffed. Just because they are still hiring at your company does not mean you are being let go because they dont like you personally.

I know its terrible to lose a job especially now; but dont lose your self worth along with it. You gotta get back on the horse.

so sorry MM
I know it doesn't seem like it, but something new and better will happen for you, hang in there.

are you a teacher?

Not as far as my job went. I was very good at it.

Just an assistant. And I realize it's foolish to be upset over an assistant teaching position, but it was a great job for me right now while dh is overseas, plus I loved the kids and loved teaching.

"this year was rough" and "they're going in another direction" does NOT EQUAL "terrible employee". It just means they're making changes.

My first time being fired was awful. Horrible. I cried for days -- didn't know what I did wrong because I always gave my all to that job. Heck, I helped HIRE the guy who fired me. :confused3

Everything happens for a reason. Don't cancel your trip to see your husband. You need the support now. You need some snuggle time...and to be appreciated.

Everything will work out.

Keep your head up, and find another job. I lost my job for being too good at what I did.
We had 6 shows. Mine was lowest priority. The other 5 were the top priority. My show by far the fewest staff and resources. We were beating the 5 other shows. The more they took away, the more creative we got at doing more with less, and the more successful we were. The boss was having a tough time explaining to his boss why were so successful, so his solution, dump everyone.

We call this in HR flipping the position. People are accepting work at a lot less money. For example, Im currently earning the highest amount for my position. If they choose to flip my position, it will be about a 30k savings.

I think a lot of folks have similar stories, especially nowadays.

School districts around here have been "restructuring". They're eliminating certain positions while hiring for others. Maybe you can find another open position in the district if you're interested.

This, MM. It's not you, it's them. Companies are doing this all over, especially in the corporate world. I've been at my job for 16 years, I'm topped out at the pay scale, and they're outsourcing left and right, as well as hiring new employees at half of what I make.

Guess who's going to be joining you in the unemployment line very soon? I think I have until about July-ish.

On the flip side, can you go back to school? Maybe because a teacher instead of an assistant? I recently went back, and if you told me 20 years ago how much I would enjoy school, I would have laughed and walked away.

Thanks, I'll try keep telling my self that. ;) But really, I'm not at the top of the pay scale...l think I just didn't click with the principal. I'm not sure why, I've worked there for three years, but for the last few months I got a weird feeling from her. But the kicker is that she knew I had another job I worked part time that wanted me full time . I couldn't work both full time so I gave up the other job last week for this one. She knew that was happeneing and never said a word. She let me quit that job knowing she was going to let me go.

Sometimes it can just as simple as someone not liking you for whatever reason. It's no a reflection of you but more likely the other person. OR they want to bring in someone they know. That sadly happens all the time.

One thing this tells you is that there is something else you are meant to do. I believe this wholeheartedly.

Please don't take this firing to heart. Our school district is not hiring any instructional assistants as they leave and move to other positions. (This is totally new to our district.)

Times are tough and the district is trying very hard to save money. We have also had wonderful people work for us as personal care assistants, but not get hired the next year because the child moves or the family requests a new assistant so the child gains more independence. If you enjoyed working with children, perhaps see if there are positions in another school or perhaps a daycare setting.

 Don't beat yourself up about this. When one door closes ... another one opens.

well, so wonder you did not click...she sounds like a jerk to let you quit another job for this one.

Good luck with something else. I am so sorry about having to cancel your trip to see your DH. That hurts me as much as anything in this thread. God Bless your family.

It IS about money...trust me, they can hire someone to do your job for less money.

So was I, they still fired me for nothing. :)

It wasn't you, it was them, you have to grieve for you job tho, you lost it, you will grieve just like you would anything else you lost. :) I know, I did....I was so shocked and floored (I'd been with the company for 8 years and was one of the best employees, also one of the highest paid, which is the "real" reason I was let go) that I just cried for like a week.....it was hard. I thought I'd be there forever. I was looking for a new position for 10 months and last week I started a new position with a new company, one that seems to value their employees, has a much lower stress level and is very relaxed and low key...best of all, it's 15 minutes from home on a bad traffic day!!! I'd been commuting 40-60 per day with my last employer. This one is much better on many levels, the only thing I don't like is the health plan they have, my Dr doesn't participate. :(
Is there any way you can contact the company you left and see if they can take you back?
