How do you carry your scrapbooking material in the parks?

Ok, I don't mean carrying all your scrapbooking products with you since I know you won't be scrapbooking in the parks, what I really mean is all the memorabilia (sp) that people collect to incorporate into their scrapbooks (pamplets, postcards, tickets, menus, receipts, etc)

I'm sure you'd need something to carry everything in so they don't get either wet, folded up or ruined in some kind of way.

So what do you use?

I keep a couple of gallon zip locks in my back pack and I put things in there. I am no so worried about wrinkles or such, just they don't get wet.

Honestly I just shove them in the backpack. Then in the room I use on the the drawers to contain my stash. At the end of the trip it all goes into a Mickey Bag and into the suitcase. Of course last week I forgot to get clean menus so now I gotta hunt some down!.

I usually keep them (maps, or other stuff I want to save) in either my pack or in the stroller bag. If it looks like rain, I'll put them in the ziplock for my DD's pull ups. When I get back to either the room or the camper, I'll put them into my suitcase or other bag for safekeeping until I get home. Most of the people I know think I'm looney for keeping maps and such, but I love it! :thumbsup2

I just put them in my backpack/diaper bag. But when I get back to the hotel I have a plastic 12X12X1/2 hard plastic envelope of sorts that I put it in. No wringles. The desk at check in gave me extra copies of every map and such so I wouldnt have to worry about getting them in the parks.

I will put DH in charge of that. He loves to look through maps and the like. He is more of a collector than I am. My job is to scrap what he collects!

Are you worried about the paper stuff (and anything else) not being acid-free? I have loads of paper bits from my holiday (everything is currently in a photo album with the paper stuff in plastic folders stuck inside) and I'm just waiting for CM UK to stock the 12" Disney album (8/1 wooppeee!) to get everything properly scrapped.

has anyone ever had pages ruined by park maps, menus etc. ? I've got some of the sleeves CM sells and the new memorabnilia pockets, but they're not cheap :bitelip: and I don't want to have to buy loads of extras!

OK, admittedly I'm a bit of an obsessive/compulsive planner/scrapbooker  , but here's what I do:
Creative Memories has a a great organizational tool called the File Mate; it's basically and accordian file, but taller than what you'd find in an office supply store. I label a section for each day we are gone on vacation, including travel days on each end. Any memorabila I collect on Monday goes in the "Monday" slot and so on. When I get home and get my pictures back I plunk them down in the appropriate day and when I'm ready to put it all in my album I've got every thing all together in one spot- no hunting down that park map or the adorable Dis pictures your kids colored on the menu! I do keep a zip bag in my back pack to put everything in while were out and about (be it Disney or elsewhere). I usually have some sort of guidebook in my bag so I make sure to nestle all my papers next to the book to keep everything flat. I make sure each evening everything is placed into the File Mate and I'm ready to go for the next day.

I also carry journaling paper with me so I can journal each day about special things that happened to us. I place those in the appropriate days and when I'm ready to put my album together it helps jog my memory about that day. At first, my DH thought I was crazy... :confused3 ...imagine that... but he sure liked the end result and we all love looking back at our vacations!

I take a sturdy file folder with me in my suitcase. Everynight when we return to the room I put my stash into it for safe--and flat storage. I have been concerned about using maps and such in my layouts because the acid issue. I now color copy the part I want to use and that is solved. It also cuts down on the bulk too.

I carry my CM deco file with me to put my loot in. I also have used a accorian file thingie that i bought at walmart few years ago.

While we are in the park, DH keeps the stuff stored for me against the flat part of our backpack. That keeps them from bending, and it keeps them from getting wet. When we get back to the room, I put everything in a small accordion file type folder, separated by day.

bnf2--I like your ideas about dividing them by day. I may have to steal that idea! I take a small notebook (with Mickey on it, of course!) with us and I journal each night things that happen and that I want to remember. That way, we don't forget stuff by the end of the trip!

When we carry a back pack I bring this thing I bought specifically for that purpose - it's kind of a cross between an accordian folder and a binder. When I travel bag free, I just try to get all my maps and brochures at the hotel or on the way out of the park, or I wait until I buy something and am carrying a bag and stuff some maps, etc in there. At the end of the night I empty everying into a seperate bag.

About the maps, etc not being acid-free: I use them anyway. I did my first album 5 years ago before I knew anything about scrapbooking (I even used rubber cement - gasp!) and I used tons of brochures, since I had hardly any good photographs. The album might not last 100 years but I figure it'll most likely survive my lifetime and that's really all that matters to me.

I take a ziplock and in that bag I put a piece of heavy corregated cardboard that I had cut at Michael's. Actually I had them cut me 2 pieces just a tad smaller than the bag itself.

I take 1 of the pieces of cardboard out of the ziplock until it is time to go home and then I sandwich all of my goodies inbetween the 2 pieces of cardboard.

I have never had a problem with anything bending this way.

I had those worries too about maps and other memoribilia. No worries now; I use what CM calls "Pocket Pages" to store all my maps of park/resort maps, key cards/park passes and all the other goodies we collect; I like the fact that I can take them out and look at them without having to slide the page protector off. The pages have pockets on both sides so I scrap one day in whatever park we're in, end that day with all the memorabilia in a pocket page, turn it over and start the next day/next park with its memorabilia.
