How do you book your trip?

I always go to a travel agency to book my wdw trip for my family. I was wondering, how does everyone else book their trip? Is it alot cheaper how you might do it then a travel agency? I was always nervous doing it on my own. :) :) :)

In my opinion, if you are willing todo the research and look around you can do as well, if not better than a travel agent. I usually do my own but on a recent trip to Disneyland I used Mouse Fan Travel since I was less familiar with Disneyland. In the end, it was the same package that I'd already looked up myself, there was very little value add for me.

If you're new to Disney, very busy, or just nervous about booking your own travel then a travel agent might be wise. I suggest someone who specializes in Disney, there are a few to choose from and I'm sure you can find reviews of them all over the place.

I've always used AAA to book a package. They usually have pretty good deals & I like the diamond discount card (use it at WOD). I've heard some great things about Dreams Unlimited so I may try them when I book my next trip.

I've never used an agency, I get scared that something will be wrong, or go wrong (insert control freak lit sign overhead here...) :lmao:

This is what I've done for the past trips:

Room only reservation thru 1-407-939-7675. I've always gotten a 20% AAA discount, but that might just be timing or luck. Usually $76/night at POP or ASMu. I take surveys online to help with costs, so I use a Disney Gift Card as my deposit, then as I get more cards I call and apply to my balance so the room is paid in full at check-in.

Tickets: Parkhoppers through mousesavers/undercovertourist. I can't say enough good things about them!

Food: We usually only have 2-3 TS just because I hate having to be somewhere at a specific time, but like them for Fantasmic or character meals. I use gift cards for these also. I pay cash or use Disney Dollars (also from surveys) to pay for CS meals and snacks. I'm opposite of most, I don't really like having everything on one card. I like things compartmentalized. I kind of know ahead what CS cost, so I keep that money/card separate, then I have one bigger amt card for just fun purchases. So when that card is used I'm done shopping! Usually.

Flight: I fly with Spirit, so can usually get good deals, last trip Dec07 was $88 round trip per person. With this economy, I doubt I can beat that, but they usually have a decent sale if you hit them right, I'm on the email alert list.

I take one credit card for emergencies, but have never used one.

So far for my 2010 trip I have $450 paid on the room, $195 in disney dollars, and 3 $25 Landry's card for Rainforest Cafe/TRex/Yak&Yeti. These were all from surveys over the past year. I guess b/c of the oddball way I pay it is just easier for me to do it myself rather than a package or an agent.

My friend is just the opposite, she calls her agent gives dates and idea of what she wants and just sits back. I'd go insane! It all depends on what works best for you.

We're DVC...so we just call "Member Services" :goodvibes

Prior to DVC, we never used a travel agent. We just arranged everything ourselves.

I have never used a TA and have found it very
easy to find all the information I need to make plans on this board and
all ears net.

I book directly thru WDW Travel Company and have had no problems
plus I am in control of my own trip (I can change up things if I want
when I want instead of waiting for a TA).

This upcoming trip will be my 4th WDW Onsite trip that I booked myself.
This Trip I have already changed resorts and tickets packages with no
problems. It's not hard at all. We booked FD bounce back while on our last trip so that is a good savings for us.

I have gone through Disney.com the last 3 years and have had great service. Prices are comparable to other services I have checked out. You can do online or on the phone.

First trip we used AAA, this trip we are using a Disney specific TA.

are you taking?

"I take surveys online to help with costs, so I use a Disney Gift Card as my deposit, then as I get more cards I call and apply to my balance so the room is paid in full at check-in."

I have been doing them myself. I have been able to get AAA rates on the resort reservations which is helpful. Tickets through Undercovertourist via Mousesavers. I don't think I would feel comfortable with anyone else doing the ADRs.

I ALWAYS scour every deal under the sun myself first, different combinations and drive myself NUTS!!) I have checked with travel agent also before booking WDW but have ALWAYS been able to get a better deal on my own and not been able to have them get it cheaper. And after doing all the work, why should I pay a travel agent to do it again anyway! I am fanatical (aren't we all) about our trips and feel if I dont do it it wont be right, control issues! We have been to WDW 13+ times so I have been "around the block" you might say. But in travel agent defense (and I'm thinking of doing that soon) I believe they can get you good deals for some trips and their experience is important. Example we went to Atlantis in the Bahamas last summer having never been there we used a travel agent and didnt get a better deal but felt some comfort (until he requested same info several times and several dropped balls on airfare deals) when we got there there were problems and not as much "comfort" as I paid for and expected! Friends of our that also went booked online through Expedia (they had a credit to use up) got a better room in a closer tower to all the action and we were the ones with the kids, and they got a better price than we did! Good luck whatever you decide. Look for all those available discount codes!!)

I use my AAA person and give her what I need and want. She does the foot work after I do the investigating:) Plus, I do get a few extras in dealing AAA. I guess I need to look into those surveys that the pp is talking about..

We do everything ourselves, can't imagine using a travel agent and not having full control. lol

I book them myself usually, but last year I went with AAA. I found it to be a very frustrating experience. Every time I wanted to check on something or change something I had to do it through my TA. I like it better when I can book myself and call and make changes when I want.

I usually make all the arrangements myself, but this time I am using Small World Vacations because of the 4/3 package deal. Mousesavers recommended them so I took a chance. Anyone else have any experience with them?

Note: Small World's quote was the same as when I used the Disney website.

I checked with a TA, and the price was more than booking directly with Disney. I also researched different Airlines, and it was still less to book a package directly with Disney. I tried outside agencies, and just could not find a better deal than booking with Disney.

What surveys are you taking that you can earn gift cards. I would freely give up a little time after the kids go to bed for some $$$.

Please share your secret.
