Maybe this belongs on the recipe board, LOL!

I need to boil eggs for salads tonight. I haven't a clue how to do it!. Well, I know you need water & eggs & a stove, but beyond that, I have no idea what to do.

Please help me stay on Atkins by teaching me how to hard cook eggs! Thank you. :)

This may not be the "right" way to do it but they always turn out okay. I put the eggs in a pot of water and then put it on the stove, bring it up to a boil, let it boil a few minutes - probably less than 5 - then turn off the stove and when the water is cool enough to touch I take the eggs out and they are done. There probably is a "better" way to do it but this is just how I do it.

I do them almost the same way as honeymo - put them in a pan, cover with water and bring to a boil - as soon as the water starts to boil, turn off stove, cover pan and leave for 20 mins. Then empty hot water and rinse eggs with cold water until you can handle them.

To peel - roll on your kitchen counter until the shell is cracked all the way around. Peel an area off then slip a teaspoon under the shell and the whole shell will slip off!

Harambe--wow! You have got it down to an art!! My way was like that, with the boiling, and especially w/the rinse w/cold water. That is a must.....thanks for the addition to my egg boiling techniques!!!:p

This is exactly the way I do mine! LOL Right down to the rolling on the counter!! :)

I put my eggs in water and start the stove.....then when the water comes to a boil I put the macaroni in.....and then when the macaroni is done the eggs are done too.....strain them into the big colander and then take the eggs out and put in separate bowl to cool off and then the rest is ready

Put the eggs in cold water, bring it to a boil. Once it's boiling, turn it down to a soft boil, and boil 15 minutes. Remove from heat, put pan under cold running water in the sink until water in pan is cold.

Perfect every time. Hard boiled, and no green.

By the way... did you know that the older the egg, the easier it peels? And a little salt in the water can help it peel easier as well.

You know- I used to just boil eggs, no special amount of time, no technique, etc. Little did I know I could make the peeling so much easier to not boil as long as I was (yes, sometimes I'd even forget till they boiled till the water was all evaporated! I have kids, they distract me sometimes LOL) and add a little salt to the water! Such little things help so much. LOL

Bibbidy - I've boiled then until the water is gone too lol and I don't even have kids! I guess I'm easily distracted or just forgetful lol.

I wait until the water boils and then I slowly add the eggs to the water. If you just dump the eggs in, they'll crack and the egg white will leak out. I leave the eggs in for about 8 minutes if I want the yolks a little softer, a couple minutes longer if I want the yolks well done.

Thanks for the instructions. I did it!! I made 4 eggs & they came out great - no green. :)

Tip for me from me: set timer so you don't burn the pot.

I ate 2 but I might eat the others as well. I am going crazy trying not to eat carbs today. I figure as long as I'm eating protein I'll be ok.

just a little piece of extra advise for high altitude cooks-do not use the bring the water to boiling and then turn it off and let them stand method if you live about 4500 feet-because water boils at a lower temp a higher elevations, it does not get hot enough to actually cook the eggs this way-always boil them at a full boil for 10 to 12 minutes or they will not be hard cooked.

I was taught that cooling them quickly by plunging into cold water once cooked helps to prevent the outside of the yolk going that yukky grey colour.

Me too!

Hmm, no one has posted my method, so here goes:

Put water in a pan and add the eggs. Transfer everything over to a bigger pan because they don't all fit, then add more water. Turn on the stove and bring to a boil. Realize 7 minutes later you have eggs boiling, so turn down the heat to a mere simmer. Forget about the eggs and check on them 10 minutes later to find out they aren't even simmering anymore. Turn up the heat and set the timer for about 5 more mintues...or so (figure this out by doing a complex math equation based on the time the eggs have already been in the pan plus the cosine of the average temperature of the water times the radius of the pan, divided by pi). Run down to get the laundry out of the dryer. Take it all the way upstairs to fold it so you can't hear the timer go off. Come down 10 minutes later to find the eggs boiling all over. Put the pan in the sink, pour cold water over them. Maybe even throw in a few ice cubes. Grumble and complain as you try to peel them and lose 1/2 of the whites. Give the eggs to the kids and make excuses for why the middle is green. Throw out all the yolks and make promises to the kids about how next time you won't boil the eggs so long! :)

no one? no one else does it my way? hmmmm.
