Check with your ISP that you currently use... they might be able to give you dial up access while on vacation. MIne gives me 10 free hours a month and then $1/hour after. Otherwise I would have stacked up on AOL (and the like) CDs
I bought a notebook a few years ago to check e-mail on a week-long trip. How many times did I check it? Maybe once. I was either too tired or going somewhere to sit down and check e-mail. So my policy on vacations is to take a vacation from the Internet too!
When we are on vacation, its a vacation from everything. No cell phones, no pagers, no emails. Nothing but us and the mouse. I know that if you have a laptop you can hook up at most hotels. But why would you.
Enjoy it all.
Life is a journey not a destination. Enjoy the trip.
I don't have a laptop, but if I did, I have an ISP that is nationwide, I'd just have to find a local dial up number in the area where I'd be. I've heard a lot of people use the freebie AOL cd's.
The only way I can do any part of the internet is sending an email from my cellphone. I wish I had a laptop, too, though.
I don't have a laptop, but we were recently gone for 3 1/2 weeks and used e-mailing to check in with relatives in case of emergency etc. We just stopped at a local library about once a week. It was great help in working out a situation with our dog and helped us worry less. It would certainly be nice to have a laptop, but this worked okay for us.
There were times on our trip when a laptop would've come in very handy - researching the next town, making reservations etc.
