 We booked a cat. 11 guarantee in Oct. for our first Disney cruise.(Family of 6, May 23-27 on Wonder) I see that on the DCL website, we are now booked in rooms 6307 and 6143.(one is forward and the other aft. We really wanted our rooms side-by-side or closer that that. Is there anything that we could do to increase our chances of getting our rooms closer? Any ideas would be appreciated! We are so excited!

I would just call your TA or DCL (whoever you booked with) and ask to be moved. It's early enough that it should be easy.

A couple of years ago we booked an inside for our kids and an outside cabin for us with the plan that they would be right across from us. Unfortunately we were booking with pretty short notice and did not find out till the last minute that we were booked 3 decks apart! The ship was full and our TA advised to try to get it changed at the port, but we were unsuccessful. As a result DH and I had to split up in the cabins, as we weren't at all comfortable with them on their own 3 decks away.

Moral of my long winded story; do it now!!!

Since you booked at guarantee, DCL may not be able to do anything. Unfortuneately that is the possible disadvantage to a GTY booking.

Good luck, I hope they can get them closer for you.

I called DCL and they told me that they added that we would really love closer rooms. She said that might get their attention and increase our chances better. I am thankful that we are going. At least we are on the same level, even if it is a "mile" away.(HA!) Thanks so much for your advice. :wave2:

I would find a floor plan of the cabins with cabin numbers and call your reservation agent with the blueprint in front of you. And then ask for very specific reservations with room numbers. (ie.: could we reserve 2514 and 2516...) I was able to do this at a Disney resort but never tried it on the cruise. When booking for the Disney Cruise my travel agent gave me a choice of cabin numbers, so maybe they can do it with two rooms as well. GOOD LUCKpirate: pirate:

::MinnieMo I did not realize that booking a cat. 11 guarantee would lead to this problem. I did not really understand the negative side to this. DCL really only told me the positive side.(that we would get, at least, a cat. 11)

Oh, now I"m worried about ours! I REALLY hope ours our close! Our TA said she'd call her rep from DCL if our docs arrive and our rooms aren't close but he told her that they always put them on the same level and TRY to put them close by. Guess we'll see!

October is low season for cruising. SO...have your TA keep calling as the date approaches. There's really no reason that they can't move you close together, especially as the ship is essentially empty now.

However....I think DCL is getting a little stinkier about cabin assignments and moving. We're cruising in 3 weeks, and they still haven't honored the request that I made at the time of booking. We're "bugging" them on a regular basis, and will continue to do so until time of boarding!

Could someone please verify if I understand this correctly.. you can either choose your cabin and book it, or you can book guaranty status which means you do not choose your cabin. What are the advantages of booking guaranty? Better chance at an upgrade?

Also couldn't the OP cancel and rebook in the way that you choose your cabin? She is not inside the 60 day cancellation penalty time yet.

Tammy, many times a GTY is less expensive than booking an assigned room. DCL will offer GTY rooms in order to fill the ship. There really is no advantage other than some $$$ savings or that being the only way you can book the catagory you want. (the cabins are all selected)

Since they are less than 60 days out, yes they can cancel and rebook. The usual problem is that the cruise has probably gone up significantly and you would pay the going rate today not what was paid during the initial booking.
