How do you think McCain won the republican nomination without the support of the Conservative base?

its the fact the vote WAS bought and paid for with American blood that conservatives want to elect a Republican. Ya know someone with actual military experience who isn't promising a withdrawal that flies in the face of what the man in charge on the ground is saying

That goes right to my theory of the Conservative view of their fellow citizens. The conservatives I come in contact with seem to view everyone else in America as people just waiting for the chance to sit on their butts and let the government give them free money. Of course, they-the conservatives -would NEVER do this-but everyone else in the country is just waiting for the opportunity.

You know as well as I do that its different circumstances, and if you're somehow advocating that liberal hacks would be above this same kinds of tactics had the Republican primary dragged on, thats just ridiculous.

When the discussions of a Michigan re-vote were swirling around, Democrats that had crossed over to vote for McCain in the hopes of sinking Romney wanted a "real" vote in the Democrat primary the second go-round. that was one of the sticking points in going forward with a re-vote...

The primary system ,especially on the Democratic side is stupid.I think for one thing we should have closed primaries, but for another this whole thing with the super delegates and not counting FL and MI is so un-American.

With the system set up the way it is, this kind of crossover is only to be expected, and its not going to be the last time we see dirty politics going on, its the name of the game and sometimes you win and sometimes you do not....

I will agree with you that the Democratic primary system is more complex than it needs to be. A winner take all system is a lot simpler and I just don't like the whole Super Delegate concept.

honestly? that a gross oversimplification and huge insult. As someone who listens to Conservative talk radio, I heard FAR more people calling up and saying they would not submit themselves to having their voter registration card stamped Democrat in order to cross over and vote.

As I've pointed out with specific examples in this thread, the Democrats were crossing over to vote for Republicans, I've listened to people call up and say they were crossing over to vote for Obama to finally defeat the Clintons, etc etc....to suggest the majority of Rush listeners are following him like lost puppies is not necessary. This is the thing that we all can forget during an election year-or during any political discussion.

While we have different opinions about what is right for America-I do not believe that anyone on either side hates America. I believe that it is love of country that motivates the really committed folks on BOTH sides.

Having said that-I am also well aware of the angry fringes of BOTH sides and the Know Nothing fringes of BOTH sides. Those are the people that scare me. The ones that are so blinded by their hatred for the "other" that they will discount any fact that does not fit neatly into the world view they espouse.

I wasn't saying you in particular, but I also have heard no great outcry from anyone on this board when Democratic members of Congress have called our military killers on the House floor either.

We've been over this, you can present the same links and evidence over and over again...making a false statement that was proven to be false with facts presented AFTER the facts...does not make something a lie.

And as I said last week, where are the hearings and investigations and moving forward with impeachment by the Democratic leadership since these "lies" are true??? and can be proven as such??

I don't know who is worse in the "Operation Chaos" story-the guy who created the idea or the people that are actually participating in it. For people who claim to love their country so much, artificially manipulating the voting process is really an odd way of showing it. What's next? I think it is wrong to have an organized effort to make sure that the "beatable" candidate from the other side wins no matter who is doing it. As I mentioned earlier, I am unaware of an "Operation Chaos" movement on the Democratic side, nor do I recall one in recent history. If someone has some evidence of one, I'll denounce that one too.

Yes, Its called Operation Chaos. The goal is to keep the democratic primary alive so Obama and Clinton need to spend money to campaign against each other and inflict political damage on each other as well. It has been effective costing both campaigns an extra $110 million.

Which completley goes against everything that is fair and honest, makes a mockery of our voting system, its just plain wrong. Again my opinion.If things like this continue to happen it will hurt the entire election process. Its made a mockery of it already. Garbage like this HAS to stop.
