How do they usually let you know about your waitlist?

I received my confirmation for my reservations yesterday. I wasn't able to get the BWV for my whole stay in a standard view (limited points) so I had them book at BCV for the other days and waitlisted for BWV.

Today I get another confirmation for one of the two nights I had waitlisted. There is no mention of the waitlist or cancellation of the other reservation. It is just another confirmation. Is this the norm? I think I was expecting some other form of communication.
 
When you ask to be put on the waitlist you need to tell them "automatic" or that you want to be called. If it's automatic, they go ahead and book whatever comes up on your waitlist. They DO NOT cancel any existing reservations. Be sure to call and cancel what you don't want.

If you ask them to call, they do. If you're not there, they leave a message saying DVC has called regarding your waitlist request and then they usually tell you that you have until 5:00 p.m. the following day to call and confirm that you want the reservation or it will be released. If you do it that way, you can cancel reservations to free up points to accept the waitlist.
 
I was told multiple times by member services that when (or if) my waitlist comes through they will book it and cancel the existing reservation....since if they don't cancel it I'll end up with points borrowed that shouldn't be borrowed.

I do think they said they'd call though....perhaps its the second situation not the first...

This is my first time on the waitlist (for the night of 12/12 at VWL...want a 2br have a 1br) and I'm getting more nervous by the day.
 
MS also told me that they canceled the existing reservation as soon as they put the new 'wait-listed' reservation through. I asked for it to be done automatically also. When I did this for our Thanksgiving trip I wasn't able to get the whole stay where I wanted, it was going to be 3 days at VWL and 3 at BWV. But they were going to keep me wait-listed for the 3 days at BWV to switch to VWL. When I called them to tell them to forget it, that I would just do the 3 and 3, they told me they had just put thru those 3 days and I would be at BWV for the entire stay!! Cool.
 

I asked to be called first but they put it through automatically. No biggie since we were not cancelling another reservation but instead adding a night on!
 
We were leaving this afternoon for 2 nights at OKW, but I just got the confirmation in the mail a day or two ago that our waitlist for SSR came thru for those 2 nights.

I had asked MS to cancel my OKW nights if those came thru... I called them a little while ago - and the nights "had" been cancelled.

Normally they call to let me know that the waitlist came through... But we just got our phone back this past Tuesday since the storm - so they may not have been able to reach me...
 
They send a new confirmation in the mail. I have never opted for them to call me first, though.
 
I will definately give them a call. I don't want to have duplicate reservations and don't have any more points to use.
 
Hmmm. I am on the waitlist for 3 nights for a one bedroom (I have a studio booked) and I was told I could NOT do automatic confirmation because I wanted them to cancel the old reservation first:confused:
