In all my excitment about getting the news that my braces are coming off I totally forgot to ask how they take them off. Now I'm getting nervous if it's going to hurt. Don't get me wrong I'm more excited than scared I'm just wondering if anyone can remember what they did to get them off? How do they take off the brackets that are around the molars? And could you try and walk me through it? I can't believe I forgot to ask my orthodontist. And usually I can't stop asking questions. Thank You to anyone who can tell me anything. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

No pain at all.
They just take some sort of tool and loosen each of the brackets (you hear little clicks) and they pull them all off together, with the wire still in place. It's pretty cool and takes all of maybe 3 or 4 minutes. The thing that may hurt a little is when they sand the cement off your teeth. I have a small mouth and my orthodontist is very rough. He hit a few nerves and cut a small place on the inside of my mouth. But even that was nothing compared to the pain of the actual braces. I don't know how they get the brackets off that are around the molars though, because my teeth were (and still are) too short to have those put in. But no one I've talked to complained about it at all, so it can't be bad.
Congrats on getting them off. It's really easy and painless. And so much fun showing off a new smile!

I just got mine on and I asked her. She said that it was painless and they just popped right off with a little tool.
Congrats!
I cant wait for that day ( only 17 months left ROFL)

Thank You Guys so Much. I Love how I know that if I need to know anything I can just get on here and get the help I need. You Guys are GREAT!!!!!!

Good Luck with your braces binny. I hope the time flies like it did for me. Thank You.

i'm getting my braces off in july. dose it hurt when they come off

It doesn't hurt at all! Honestly, it hurt like HECK getting them on, (and then the rubber bands and tightenings:() but having them taken off actually felt like a release and there was no pain at all. They use some sort of special tool to take the ones off the molars. I don't remember what it was called, but it kind of separated the ring so that it could come off easily. Seeing the end result (beautiful, straight teeth!) makes it even better! :teeth:

I really liked the part after the braces come off and they clean my teeth with some kind of water jet to get rid of any stuck cement! That was really tickling!:teeth:

That was going to be my answer exactly. Of course I never had braces but it sounded like an "interesting" answer.

Well it's been a looooooooooooooooooong time, but I thought it was kinda fun getting the braces off. The day I went, I didn't know they were going to do it. They did the uppers one week, I think the lowers came off a week or two later.:teeth: (those are my nice straight teeth).

Get ready to smile! You will love your "new" look.

Oh, goodness, it has been 20 years since I got mine off. I was scared too. It is really not painful. You will feel a little pressure as they clip/snip the metal and glue off. I was really scared about the back bands also, but honestly, my doc had these off before I even knew he was working on them. The tool he'll use looks kinda big and scary, but it isn't bad.

You may want to schedule a cleaning appointment with your normal dentist shortly after getting the braces off. You may have a few stains from the area where the glue was. My orthodontist polished my teeth when he took the braces off, but said my real dentist was better equiped to do the best job.

And expect your teeth to be a little sore for a few days. Nothing too bad though. My Dad always recommended holding salt water in my mouth to help with the soreness. Believe it or not it does work.

Hey,
Thank You again. You Guys Rock!!!!! Now I'm back to being excited. I can't wait. :hyper:
