How do the park passes work?

Thank you to everyone who's been answering my 1st-timer questions! I've got another one!

We are staying offsite (in Kissimmee) for our week-long trip. I plan on purchasing the 4-day Park Hopper pass -- I think this will be plenty for our family. My question is....if we decide not to go to the parks one day but wish to have dinner or just go for the fireworks or something inside the park, do I have to use a day on our pass? How does this work?

Yes, If you enter the park to eat or see the fieworks you will have to use one day off of you pass.

As LisaNJ25 wrote, the first time you enter a park on a day, it is considered a "day" of your pass used even if you only go in for a few hours. I have read posts on other threads about places you can go to view the fireworks without entering a park. I can't tell you where since I haven't been to WDW myself yet but you might consider that option and try searching for the information or posting that question.

DisneySteve recommened this if you don't want to go into a park to watch the fireworks...

"We also love to go hotel-hopping. Catch the monorail at TTC and ride over to Contemporary. Browse the shops, go up to 15th floor observation deck for a great view of MK (go and nite and you can watch fireworks from 4th floor observation area). Then take monorail to Poly and GF and spend time exploring those properties too. From there, take a boat over to Fort Wilderness. Visit the petting zoo and walk the nature trail."
