How do the CM's know where the characters are?

I understand that when you enter a park, a CM will be able to tell you where a particular character is. How do they know this? Do they have a list or is it computerized? Just curious, because we will be on the lookout for certain ones IN THREE WEEKS! Sorry, I just had to yell that out.....very excited, & quite obnoxious too....

I doubt that every CM can tell you where every character is!
Character appearances are scheduled, every those that appear to be spontaneous, and at Guest Relations they generally have this information available.

I have read or heard that there is a Character Hotline Information line that CMs can call and locate time and places of meets and greets.

We've had CM's use handheld radios to call guest relations for us and then be able to answer our questions about where the characters are. Not all CMs carry the radios, however.

CM's can find any character: where they will be and when they will be there. I know that if you look around the MK, the signs with the mickey hand is where regulars come out. Just ask any CM and there is a sure way of finding that character that you are looking for.

If you need to know if a character is scheduled to appear at a particular park and when, ask a castmember and they can call and find out for you. Otherwise, go to guest services when you enter the park, and they have a schedule of what characters are supposed to appear and where.

I will be the voice of dissent here - Don't totally trust the CMs or Guest Services to find a character! I believe the CM's can tell you characters that are in their usual spots, or predictable ones, like the character meets listed in the times guide. But some of the more 'spontaneous' character meets, or maybe meets with many characters at once, the CMs may not know.

Well, here's my story on this: In January, it was our last day of a six day trip and my nephew really wanted to see Brer Bear. We been there all week, and never saw him once. So, just for fun, I went to Guest Services at City Hall in MK and asked. The polite CM made a call, and sadly reported to me that Brer Bear does not make appearances in the park anymore, and hasn't been doing meets in a while, and of couse was not scheduled that day. I was confused to hear this, as I thought he was around, but I thanked her and left. LITERALLY, as I walked out of City Hall, who walks out right at that moment? Brer Bear! My nephew runs up to him and we get his autograph and pictures, and are thrilled!

I just couldn't resist - afterwards, I returned to Guest Services and told the same CM that Brer Bear is outside right now! I jokingly asked if she did that for us (but I knew she didn't since Brer Bear was already in costume by then), and she looked blank and surprised that her information was so wrong. I said as I left -"Disney Magic at it's best!" :)

So moral of story - just keep your eyes open! The CMs don't know everything! Some characters meets are "unscheduled" or spotaneous, so you never know who you'll find! :) :)

Thanks for the info. Just so I'm not wandering around each park needlessly can anyone confirm that MGM is the only place Jiminy Cricket hangs out? If so, I'll limit my searching to Guest Relations there.

I am not sure about MGM, but in May I met Jiminy Cricket on the Holiday bus that makes stops in Epcot. I was thrilled!!!!!!!! I think he's quite rare and not out very often, so that was the surprise of our trip to find him, as we love to character-hunt. :)

Thanks, Hugs, for another option. Sounds like Jiminy needs to get his agent to work on a few more gigs for him.

And I thought they squeezed Pal Mickeys hand and got the answer!!!;) ;) :p

In defense of Guest Services and Castmembers... they can tell you where a character is SCHEDULED to be for certain times in certain parks, however, they have no control if something comes up and that character cannot be there.

It is truly amazing how much info you can find on these boards...thanks so much for all the replys!

Don't just trust any CM for info on finding a character. I asked a CM at Guest Services at EPCOT where Mulan might appear and she said in Morocco with the other Aladdin characters.
