How do some people wear the shoes they do?

We just got back from our wonderful trip to WDW. While waiting for my family a few times and resting my aching feet. I love to watch people. I love to see what they are wearing, eating, etc.... while half way through the worlds at Epcot, I noticed some people in high heeled sandles! How do you people do this? I have to wear extremely sensible shoes or I don't think I'd ever walk again! The only sandles I could possible wear would be birkenstocks or something made for walking. Anyways, it was just something I really noticed...man I must be getting old!

Funny you should mention it, but there is actually a website set up that highlights some of the more outrageous things people have been seen wearing on their feet at Disney World. You can check it out at www.badshoe.com

I often wonder this too!
The last time we went to Epcot I wore Sketchers and they are the most comfy shoes I own, by the end of the day I could hardley walk. so imagine how the people in the high heeled shoes get on! I must say that fashion goes out of the window for me when it comes to walking round a Disney park all day!!:)

Thanks for the bad shoe link. Too funny!

Glad to know I'm not an the only one to notice. I wish I had taken a few pictures, cuz I saw some great ones that I could have added to that site!!

WOW!

I forgot about the badshoe site. It is truely impressive to see some of the bad shoes out there.
The worst I ever remember seeing was a woman wearing a pair of spike heel sandles that looked like Barbie shoes (the ones with 3 inch heels and a single strap across the front to hold them on). I don't know how she wore those in the park. I would have lasted about 10 minutes in them (if I was lucky).

My SIL is so used to heels, that when we went as an extended family in '98, she wore heels to WDW. Not spikes, but definately higher than I could handle. It was what she was used to, tho & she had no problem with it.

I just bought a new pair of Sketchers sneakers for our trip. I'm "breaking them in" by walking my girls to school. Very comfy. It kills me to see some of the shoes that some women wear in such the wrong places! There's this one mom who picks her kids up from Kindergarten the same time I do, and she ALWAYS has on high heel shoes, and is usually carrying a sleeping toddler. To each his own, I guess!

When we went in September I wore open-toe high-heeled wedge sandals. Sure, at the end of a 12 hour day my feet were hurting a bit, but those are the shoes I wear every time I go out in the summer so I'm used to them. And my feet really didn't start to hurt until maybe hour 11. I don't own a pair of tennis shoes/sneakers. When we go in December I probably will not take my sandals though because I have limited packing space and it might be cold. I'll take my 2" heeled Clarks. Nice looking shoes but comfy too. Really, I think if people are used to their higher-heeled shoes then it probably bothers you more than it bothers them:)

At MGM this past Feb, there was a girl wearing a mini skirt with black fish net stockings and knee high leather boots with spiked heels!

We love to look for "bad shoes" while at WDW. It's a great way to pass the time while taking a rest. We play a little game and extra points are awarded for "really" bad shoes.

I come from a long line of bad feet and have to be so darn careful as to what I wear. I was amazed and jealous they can handle wearing whatever they want. I saw one pair that looked like it was hardly strapped on. OWWWWW!

There are just people who feel good wearing heels....I would be one of them. I can do just about anything in heels...dance, run (not like a marathon but anyway), work, go to carnavals. I have no problems except when I try walking through gravel or sand  There are times when I think I walk better in heels than in normal shoes!

That is funny. I have wondered the same thing myself. I have told my hubby, these people must wear these types of things because they are more concerned about appearance than comfort. Give me a pair of dorky comfortable shoes any day!!!

Yikes! Trashy!

Love the badshoes web site.
This is a question I have often pondered too.
Only taking 3 pairs of shoes with me....I take 2 pairs of tennis shoes (Sketchers & Asics) so I can switch them mid week which is a nice break for my poor little feet & a cute pair of FLATS to wear with on Pleasure Island night. I'm all about comfort....don't like blisters or sore feet..you need your feet at WDW.

When I was there in June I saw a girl in line at MS and she had on pink PLASTIC tennis shoes...her feet looked all scrunched in them too, souldn't be too comfy to wear. Makes me wonder. I know I wear New Balance walking shoes and after a day at the parks my feet are killing me!!:smooth:

I know some people wear shoes like that just to be "in fashion," bu that may not always be the reason. I have flat feet and heels are more comfortable to me than flats or sneakers. With that said, I'm still going to wear sneakers to the parks, but I have to make sure they have a lot of support and are not completely flat on the ground. I do have to agree with the spiked heels and the plastic tennies. WHAT are they thinking???? lol.

I am one of those who wear my trusted running/walking shoes at WDW and take a few pair. If your feet go on the fritz at WDW your trip can be shot.

My lament (and the nature of my question) is that i recently developed heal spurs. (a biproduct of my recent pregnancy) What (short of cortizone shots in my feet or surgery) helps these? My doc gave me some simple stretches to try and re-establish some of the tone in that tendon on the bottom of my foot, but i am wondering if anyone else out there has these and how they manage them.

Especially with all the "foot time" at WDW. I am scared to death that i will become a hobbeling mess on our next trip. I don't want this to ruin what has always been wonderful trips we look so forward to each year.

SORRY GUYS THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEW THREAD. WILL REPOST AS A NEW THREAD.

ok, the adults I can understand. But my heart ache's when I see little kids (no stroller) wearing really uncomfortable looking shoes. Like the plastic Princess sandals. I would never let my dd walk around all day in those things.....

Then they wonder why their kids get tired/whinny during the day...

I'm one of those people who doesn't often wear flats, though I've lessened the height of my heels over the years so they're not as high as they were in my 20's. Working in an architectural office, I always wore some kind of pantsuit, or skirt, and dress shoes (heels) to work, and switching to sneakers for anything other than a workout at the gym has never seemed natural to me. I actually feel MORE UNCOMFORTABLE wearing flat shoes. My calf muscles are extended from 20 years in heels. That being said, though, I certainly left the dress shoes at home during our last trip to Disney, and wore flat sandles or sneakers. My feet and calves were ACHING by the end of each day.

I don't know WHAT I'm going to wear during our upcoming trip in December.
