OT, but I wanted to point out that this might be a regional thing....our local Banfield is FABULOUS...and we have the insurance plan. It has saved us a TON over the years, we have a doggie with chronic ear issues (basset hound). I really looked around when we got this dog, our long standing vet retired and I didn't know where I wanted to take our new puppy. We've been absolutely thrilled with Banfield in our area.
Maybe it is regional. We took one of our cats to Banfield once and ran fast the other way once we saw the charges. Our current vet, who is very good IMO, charges way less.
To the OP, you are so kind to help these dogs. Just don't get a reputation for being too soft-hearted. My poor aunt did and ended up caring for literally hundreds of animals over the years.

Judy I'm so glad to hear the puppies found a great home! It is awesome when someone falls in love with them and you know they are going to a great home.
I do hope you can post some pics of the hound dog soon, they are so adorable.

Our vet gives a small (10%) discount on multiple pets.
I'd suggest that you contact the Humane Society in our area. I beleive that the local Humane Society runs a vet clinic that operates on a sliding scale where the vets donate time and they give discounts if you can't afford the prices. I don't know the details, but it would be worth looking into.
Also consider that Petco runs immunization clinics at some stores that might be less expensive than your vet.
As to your vet that doesn't give multiple pet discounts, did you ask? Sometimes if you find a pet and bring it to the vet for evaluation/treatment the vet might discount that service for you.
