How do Jetblue fares work?

Hi

I'm familiar with SWA--book ASAP for popular times to get the best rates and if there happens to be a fare reduction they will issue credit.

Is this the same thing I should do with Jetblue?

FYI--I'm looking to go to Cancun in Feb from Boston.

Thanks

I fly JB often. I watch and book a fare as soon as I see a fare I can live with. Then, I check out their site almost daily. If I see the fare has been reduced, I get on the phone and call them. I just tell them I see the fares for my flight have been reduced and I would like a credit. They are very happy to do this. Just be sure the rep you get reissues your chosen seats. I had one rep that almost forgot. It seems they have to cancel your current reservation and then make a new one. I usually have a credit with them. Then, I just apply it to my next flight.

odd? most every flight i book ends up getting credits and i've never had that situation. maybe they do it in the background and i just don't know it, but the credit issuing seems to happen way too fast for something like that.

plus i've always had the same confirmation #s, no indication that anything had been canceled and recreated.

you can always view and change your seats online as well.

I forgot you can choose seats on Jetblue--I like that! Don't they also have TVs in the seat?

What's 'odd'? Is it the reissuing of the seats? If so, I can safely tell you that I have had two different JB reps say, while on the phone with me...'oops, almost forgot to go in and reissue your seats. That wouldn't have been good.' I guess I made the wrong choice in wording. I, also, have always kept the same confirmation number.

They sure do....that's one of the things I love about them. I'm not the easiest flyer, so I love having my attention diverted during the flight!!

some of their planes also have some XM channels available

And I can tell you from experience that if you don't know, or forget, about having your seats rebooked, you can easily lose them. Fortunately, I checked my seats again shortly after getting my credit (which now has to be used by October 2008!) last week and saw that my seat had been changed. I called right back, and the wonderful reservationist was able to get my row 1 seat back (side comment, not directed at ANYONE except myself: while this row it good because there's nobody in front of you, it has solid armrests; I intentionally choose this row whenever possible so I don't 'overflow' into somebody else's seat :))

Oh, right - to answer the OP's specific questions: As long as you make NO changes to your itinerary other than the fare reduction, there's no 'change' fee. If your fare drops from $200 to $100, you get $100 credit. On some legacy airlines, they consider ANY change to be subject to the change fee, e.g. even if you keep the exact same flights and the fare drops $60, they'll assess you the $50 change fee.

interesting.. well, fortunately, my seats were kept in tact for both my flights in may for everyone..

i do have to wonder if any of it has to do with them removing the front row though. i imagine some flights would have their seat assignments affected by it.

Nope (because I bought my tickets after that very welcome reconfiguration :)), and to be honest, in ALL the times I've called for a credit this is the FIRST time my seat assignment was changed.

I think that, for the most part, the JB reps just go ahead and do what they need to do. But, there are times when they may 'verbally' remind themselves to do what needs to be done. You have probably just gotten good reps who automatically do what needs to be done, without vocalizing it.

I just called and got my first credit a couple of weeks ago and had a rep that stated out loud , " now let me just book you you'r seats again." I asked about it and she stated she cancels our first booking and rebooks with the lower fare. I asked if there was a chance I would lose my seat and she aid there was if the plane was full or nearly so and she wasn't quick enough!!!!!

Funny that I saw this tonight....I got a call on my cell phone today from another DISer and she said..."your flights are down...call Jet Blue!" So, of course I had them in my cell phone(speed dial..lol), but I did not have ANY of my info with me (flight #'s etc.) but they're so great...they looked it up..and credited my account(both flights down and back went down in price-for 3 passengers..an $85 credit now!!) The agent said you're all set and I hung up..didn't ask her about my seats. I called my DIS friend mentioned to check my seats when I got home...sure enough..I was moved...I quickly went to the Manage your flights..and recaptured my seats! So, glad the DIS and all my DIS buddies (Thanks minster22!!)are watching out for me while I work!! :goodvibes

Yes that's what Jet Blue reps have told me also; the system will not simply apply a credit, they have to cancel the ressie and rebook with the new fare.

Thanks to someone here on the boards , I just checked my May flight and it was down again. I now have added another $64.00 in credit to my TrueBlue account !!

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the rebooking info. I never knew that, either. Whenever we've gotten a credit, our seats have stayed the same and nothing was said by the rep about rebooking. That's good to know so I can make sure we stay seated together!
