get our son's name on one of our contracts.

We have 2 memberships. One bought directly from Disney last year for 150 pts at VWL.

Another we purchased 90 pts resale last year for BWV then added on 150 pts, but our guide did this in 3 50 pt contract. If we had been thinking at the time we should have had our son put on one of these as an owner.

Our son is in college as a Golf Management major. We would really like to have him as an owner so he can have a DVC Golf card and also get the discounted APs once he no longer has the same address as us.

Any advise? Thanks.........Laura

At this point, the only thing to do would be to sell him one of the contracts, but then you would have to go through Disney's ROFR and risk losing it. To my knowledge, there is no other way to have him appear as an owner. Our adult "kids" are associate members on our contracts, but they do not get member perks like AP discounts etc. It only gives them the right to book.

We've discussed this a couple of times before and I just today had this conversation with my new guide today. As I understand it, you would not have been able to add his name to one of the 50 pt contracts bought through DVC. DVC requires that all contracts under one umbrella be listed exactly the same. What you could do is any one of the following.
  • Convert any whole master contract over to include his name.
  • Separate out any one of the sub contracts and convert it to his name by having a new deed recorded.
  • Buy a new contract resale and have his name on it from the start.
  • Buy a new 150 pt contract from DVC.
Just remember that any contract you change the names on will be a totally separate contract afterwards. You would not be able to use those points with the others at the 7 month window like you do now. Of course you could always transfer from one account to another or make separate reservations and link the them. Regardless, all of the scenarios you can come up with include some type of closing cost and options other than buying a new 150 pt contract from DVC directly.

I'm trying to figure out my long term options and make some decisions. I know that after Dec, I will not need nearly as many points as I have now. I'd like my kids to be on something for the perks but don't want them on a larger contract in case they get into financial trouble. I also believe that the per point values will start to decline before too much longer, I'd say no later than 2014 or so. I can travel off season now, don't usually need a 2 BR and can exchange in most times I'll want to go to DVC. But DVC is my first love and I currently own both BWV and OKW points, the best values in the system in my view and my favorites, OKW points for a GV and BWV for the standard and BW views.

Thanks diane and Dean. I thought it may not be possible to easily do this.

I would really like to buy a small HH contract in mine and his name. Being a golf pro, i know he would always make use of it in the future. But with all the small contracts getting ROFR'd lately I'm not too sure this will be possible.

BTW, thanks to both of you and several others on this board, that are so eager to share your knowledge with us. I am sure we would not be enjoying our points near as much if it had not been for everything we have learned here.

Thanks.........Laura

HH is easily available through DVC. Just buy the points then change the deed, it's not difficult.

You will probably need DVC's right of first refusal to transfer the deed. Call MS and ask about gifting contract to son and what paper work and forms need to be filed. Then complete the transfer documents with DVC and Orange County, it should be pretty easy.

You will need Member Admin. When there is no payment and you are simply gifting, they will give you a free pass.
