How do I upgrade?

We have a party of 9 going to DL next month. The party will kind of be split in 2. DH, DS and myself, then SIL, BIL and their 4 kids. We are taking 2 different flights and my family will get in early afternoon on arrival day (saturday), the other family wont get in until later in the evening. I booked the whole trip, so everything is in my name except for their hotel room. We had no plans on doing DL on arrival day. However since we get in so early, I was thinking of surpising DS and DH and upgrading our 3 day park hopper to 4 day and just starting that day. I have never done that before and I'm not really sure how it works. I ordered my tickets from GetAwayToday.com and all the stuff should be arriving in the mail soon. Last time we got a piece of paper to take to the ticket booth and they gave us our tickets. I believe I will need to do the same this time around. So when I pick up the tickets can I just ask to upgrade from 3 to 4 days on just ours? What will the price difference be? I believe the tickets I got from GetAwayToday were less then what they are directly through Disney, so how does that work?

If you got a cheaper price from GAT, then you will most likely pay the full price difference between what you paid for your 3-day tickets and the gate price of 4-day tickets. You can do the upgrade at the ticket booth when you pick up your tickets.

My suggestion to you right now though is to give GAT a call. I've had good experiences with this company. Ask them if it is possible to upgrade with them. Explain that you want to upgrade 3 of the tickets and see what they say. They might be willing/able to just charge you the price difference. If there are no change fees involved, this is is your best option. Then you can pick up the tickets at the ticket booth without having to take the time for an additional transaction. Last time I used GAT for tickets, there was no paper to redeem at all. I simply went to the ticket booth and showed ID and the credit card used to buy the tickets, and Disney pulls the order up in their system, so it may not be too late to make changes through GAT.

I thought about doing that, however I dont want to do it ahead of time incase we dont feel up to going to the parks that day. I want to wait until we get there to see how we feel. I dont remember if I had to have the paper with me to redeem them, but I like to bring it just incase.

Just know you'll lose any discount you got if you wait. Disneyland can see what you paid and you will have to pay the full difference (rack rate for 4 days minus what you paid already) to get that extra day.

Last time I did business with GAT, I ordered just tickets, so nothing at all was sent by mail. I did receive an e-mail confirmation which I could have printed off and taken with me, but I didn't need it. This was last June.

As larina and I mentioned, you will lose any discount you received when you upgrade. If you got the price I'm seeing currently on their website, it looks like you would only pay $21 more per adult ticket for an upgrade with GAT versus the $41 per adult ticket increase to upgrade at the gate.

Our experience with GAT was in 2011, so YMMV. However, we upgraded our 4-day tickets that we had purchased at a slight discount ($4 each - nothing to write home about) to APs and Disney credited the full amount towards the upgrade. So, we got our APs for $325 instead of $329 (oh, to pay that price for an AP again!)

I'm wondering what you are looking at. I just went to GAT and disney and looked at the prices. For adult ph its...
3day $255, 4day $280 GAT
$260 and $285 Disney

That is a $25 more per ticket for GAT. I dont remember if thats the price I paid. Assuming it is, even if I do the upgrade through Disney its only costing me a extra $5 per ticket ($30 vs $25 extra per ticket). I think I'm doing the math right. I'm really bad at math, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I realize I may have to pay a little more by waiting and thats ok. I just dont want to buy them ahead of time and then realize that day that we are to tired to go or we get to the hotel and set up later then I thought and lose the money I spent on it.

Huh. I went to GAT, tickets only page. I added a 3-day adult e-ticket PH to my cart at $244 and a 4-day one at $265. Don't know what you paid when you got yours.

Current Disney price for a 3-day PH is $260 and $285 respectively as you said.

Maybe you paid a different price for your tickets when you bought them. Don't know why you and I are seeing different prices from each other now though. :confused3

In any case, if you're comfortable with paying more and having the flexibility to decide when you are there, to answer the original question, yes you can upgrade at the ticket booth. It should be a quick, easy process.

I figured it out. The prices you are seeing are the special they have going on that is adult tickets for kids prices. Unfortionatly it doesn't apply for the time we are going . I'm guessing I did pay the $255.

Ah that explains it. I didn't look real closely. So, yeah, I wouldn't sweat $5 per ticket.
