how do I rid my shed of moss!

The shed needs to be painted. My problem is getting the moss off the roof without damaging the shingles. Anybody ever deal with this? Can I use bleach or is there something I can buy at HomeDepot that will help?

Hmmm....what about Round-Up? It is an all-kill so be careful when you spray it. Make sure there is no wind to carry to trees and other plants.

Try Zinc Sulphate - it was recommended to us and worked great. The hardest part will be finding a store that sells it. Try your local feed outlets or agriculture store...some local hardware stores might have it.

To use it you need to mix 2 pounds of Zinc Sulphate mix into 5 gallons of hot water and spray on the roof moss using a pressurized garden sprayer. The mixture will cover 100 square feet per gallon of liquid.

My DH reminded me that there is a product called "De-Moss" sold by Ortho....we didn't use it so I can't tell you how it works, but I suppose you can google it.

after you remove the moss. go to the depot or roofing supply to buy a zinc strip that covers the length of the roof. Most moss killers include some form of zinc. After you attach the strip to the peak of the roof, when it rains, a chemical reaction occurs between the water and the zinc , releasing a small amount of ' moss killer ' along the shingles. It is an easy prevention method.
