I am planning on buying a package for my Dis vacation to take advantage of free dining. How does it work to redeem your GAD voucher?

I assume you are asking what your options are - redeeming a voucher itself is not affected by a package.

To get free dining, you have to get a package with at least a 1-day base MYW ticket.

So your options are:

1) Pocket the 1-day MYW ticket for future use. There is no requirement to use it during your stay. It will not expire until you use it the first time. On a future trip, use it and upgrade it as necessary. Redeem your GAD voucher for the 1-day ticket and upgrade that. This saves you the most money, although it will take a second trip to realize the the savings.

2) Either get a ticket in the package equal to 1-day less than your needed amount or upgrade it or the GAD ticket to the same, and use the other 1-day ticket to fill out your stay. This actually saves very little money for a stay more than 3 days - $6 or less.

3) Get the ticket your need for your package or upgrade the 1-day from the package to the length of stay you need, and redeem the GAD voucher for one of the other options since you'll have a multi-day ticket - the Give A Day Fastpass, the souvenir ear hat figurine and pins, or donate the day to one of several charities.

So if I can't buy a one day package and then turn in my GAD ticket the second day and then upgrade after that for more days?

Ok, I have another question. The tickets that I am buying for my package, are they tied directly to our names? My sister and brother in law will be out there at the same time. Could I sell them my tickets that are part of my package and use my gad tickets?

Your tickets that you get as part of your package will be on your room key, along with the dining credits and charging privileges. However, at the time you check in (or immediately afterwards at the Lobby Concierge) you can have the tickets removed from your room key. Until such time as a ticket is first used it is freely transferable.

So you could get the package tickets removed from the KTTW and give them to the relatives and redeem and upgrade the GAD vouchers.

However, if they already have tickets this will not work. You might want to look at the Everything About WDW Tickets locked sticky in this Forum. Especially the items bolded in the list below.

That was option #2. However, this saves you very little unless your stay is very short. Each day beyond the 4th costs only $3+tax. You never say what the length of your stay is, but let's say its 7 days, and we'll leave the tax out of the numbers, but know you'll pay tax on whatever portion of money you actually pay out of pocket. We'll just talk one adult ticket.

If you want to use BOTH tickets, it doesn't matter whether you upgrade the package ticket or the GAD ticket, it costs the same.

So, to use both tickets you'll need to upgrade one of them to 6 days. You've already paid $79 for the 1 day in the package. It will cost you an additional $152, so you end up paying $231 to get 7 days worth of tickets. But a 7 day ticket only costs you $234. Using the free 1-day ticket only saved you $3.

Now, if you forget about the 1-day ticket in the package, save it for a future trip - take the 1-day GAD ticket and upgrade it to the full 7 days, you'll pay $155 to upgrade it. It's $3 more than the other scenario - but you have another 1-day ticket in hand for a future trip that is with $79 (or more if prices go up) that can also be upgraded. In this scenario, you save at least $79, not $3 - with the proviso that you need to make another trip that does not include tickets in a package.

Your names are on the KTTW cards, but the ticket entitlements are not technically tied to anyone. Ideally, you'd go to the lobby concierge at the resort and ask to have the ticket separated from your KTTW card. Alas, this seems to be becoming an increasingly more difficult task in finding a cast member that knows how to do this.

I have a similiar issue. So I am tagging onto this thread.

I will have one day MYW tickets for the 4 of us as a the package including my Dniece. If I chose to pocket the MYW tickets for future use, can the my daughter's friend use Dniece's MYW ticket at a future date? Do I have to separate the tickets from the KTTW card for this to work?

Thank you.

You don't need to separate it, although it will be less confusing if you do, for two reasons:

1) If the ticket is on your KTTW card, you have to make absolutely certain you don't put that through the turnstile instead of the ticket you meant to use. Otherwise you'll lose the 1 day on there.

2) You'll have a separate ticket, that is more easily identifiable, and doesn't have names and dates on it that might make you think it is useless.
