omgosh this is really embarassing!

Yesterday I dropped my coffee mug off my desk and when I went to grab it, I caught the inside of my wrist on the corner of my desk and sliced it. It looks like, well you know what it looks like ( which is something I would NEVER DO!!!), and its begining to pucker. I am keeping anitbiotic cream on it
but what else can I do? This looks really bad!! I hate to keep it wrapped because I know people will think and that is NOT what happened AT ALL!!

HELP!

you can buy some vitamin E caplets at the drugstore, they're kindof expensive but if you break them open and rub all the gel on your cut it should help in preventing one. I cut my finger open cooking about a week ago, and it's almost all healed up already since I put the vitamin E on. Hope that helps? I know they also make scar products specifically, and neosporin should help too if you don't have the money for the vit. E.

tricia.

Long sleeves if you don't want a bandage! Anyway, my sis had her thyroid removed and therefore had her throat cut (!). She swears by vitamin E cream and she also used (Medurma?????) the stuff marketed to reduce scars. Had this done in August and she says that you cannot see anything now.

Maybe you could also use that clear stuff you paint on (liquid bandage) if you don't want to wear a bandage.

Now, if it were me......................I would not be concerned about what people "think". They are gonna think whatever they want anyway, if they are so inclined! Heck with them. If you "act funny" about your wrist, you will just fuel the fire.

My daughter sustained 2nd degree burns on her toes from scalding water. She was 1 1/2 and healed BEAUTIFULLY--2 weeks later---unless you knew she had been burned, you couldn't tell at all--and even if you knew, you had to look really hard.

ER Doctor's and her podiatrist--suggest vitamin E--the pharmicist suggested buying capsules, cutting them open and squeezing the oil directly onto the wound. Her wound care routine was Cleanse, Apply silvadine to all burns, apply Vitamin E to all burns and bandage. When the burns were mostly healed--we applied the Vitamin E for a few more days. Vitamin E is very very sticky--so you will need to cover the wound while the E is getting absorbed.

Now--children, especially babies--heal skin wounds much much better than adults--so you may not get the near perfect results she did--but you definitely should have less of a scar than otherwise without the Vitamin E.

Edited--b/c I misread your post--I thought you burned yourself--but the Vitamin E as others have said will work for any kind of skin healing.

vitamin E

About 18 years ago I was bit on the nose by a dog. I used the vitamin E caplets like batriccia said and I have a very little scar now. You can't really tell unless I point it out.

Ouch, I hope you didn't slice it too bad! I would recommend vitamin E too, and invest in some bangle bracelets for after the wound heals, while the scar is going away :p

Also, if you use Neosporin, try not to use it for more than 7 days. Once after I had surgery, DH2B would clean the incision for me every day and put Neosporin on it before he put the new gauze around it. We did this for about 2 1/2 weeks, then I started to get this really bad rash (which was awful because I still had my staples in!!). We stopped using the Neosporin and it went away! I still can't even let that stuff touch my skin to this day or else I get a rash!!

thank you all. I will try the Vit. E I have some in my cupboard.

Youre right I shouldnt act funny about it. I guess Im just over sensitive about since my neighbour did that a couple of months ago. I wouldnt want people to think I had done something like that too you know? I probably shouldnt have even mentioned where the cut was, I guess I was just trying to emphasize how important it was that it heal ok. Does that make sense?

Same as the advice above and avoid sunlight on the scar for at least 6 months.

Have you've had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years? I just cut my finger the other day and remembered i hadn't had one in 12 years so off to the doctor i went to get a shot.

oh good thinking SC, I think I had one though when Kaylee was born. so that would be 6 years ago.

I thin Im ok..

I hadnt thought of that though. Thanks!

The biggest thing to do is keep it out of the sun (should be easy, since it's on the inside). Lather it up with sunscreen (after it's healed obviously) anytime you might get some sun. This and the other suggestions should help to keep it minimal.

I sliced my wrist as well, trying to get hockey tape off of a hockey stick with an exacto knife and the blade snapped. Emergency did give me a tetanus shot as well as 5 stitches and in interrogation! The scar was very red and raised for about a year. Now is it skin coloured and hardly noticeable. I used vitamin e.

People don't really look at your wrists.
