How do I order a color Magic Band

Oh dear god....they are crocs for the wrist. I do hope the Magic Bands are an option and not the only choice...

You can definitely opt out and go with just an RFID card, but you lose some of the "magical experiences" the MB enables.

There is a rumor of an alternative being developed, but nothing concrete.

What are the "magical experiences"? All I've seen so far is the ability to wave your wrist next to a Mickey head to enter the park or pay for something. Can't I just wave my card (which would be on a lanyard so just as easily accessible)?

Not wearing something on my wrist will have to be an alternative for me....otherwise I don't see myself returning to Disney.....my dislike of wearing something is that serious. And considering that in 2012 I spent over 100 days in a Disney park somewhere in the world.....well, they definitely want to come up with an alternative, lol. I am not the only one with this aversion.

They are not specifically defined, but the standard example is that the princesses will be able to call you/your child by name as they approach. These are activated by the "long range" transmitter in the MagicBands.

You do NOT have to actually wear the band. You just need to have it. Wearing it is just the most convenient way to carry it.

Grey Magic Band + Black Sharpie = Black Magic Band

LOVE IT!!! And since I will be bringing black Sharpies for autographs...

My original plan was to bring some black Ranger Ink which stains everything, your idea is much better.

Yes! Star Wars covers for DS and DH, but does anyone have a pic of anything HM for the MB? DD loves it.

Any thoughts/recommendations for those that have tested Magic Bands about ordering same color for whole family with names (including kids) vs individual colors? Just wondering if there is something I haven't thought of that would be one way easier than other. Clearly, I'm overthinking this all!;)

We each went with a different color because it will be easier that way. I can guarantee that none of us will want to sleep with them and in the rush in the morning, we can each easily grab our own.

Also, we do not all have the same FP+, so we need to definitely keep them separate.

My question would be...How do you order different colors? Where do you go to do this? Is this something that can be done on the My Disney Experience App?

It's done on the My Disney Experience web page, after you've linked a qualifying resort stay, and you are within the window to order them (which at this point seems to be many months ahead of time...)

All you have to do is link your resort reservation to your My Disney Experience account and wait until it allows you to customize magic bands. I have two reservations in May and have customized bands for both.

Awesome!!! Thank you for your quick responses. I am excited to order colored bands for our spring trip!!

Well...how about "light" black.....aka gray? :lmao:

One of my daughters (the uber fashionista who MUST coordinate underwear and sock colors, despite assuring me no one but her sees both, lol...in fact her point is that SHE will know).....she is actually wanting either the choice to accumulate several different bands in colors she would wear or is protesting that there is no black "since black will be the closest to coordinating with everything I have". She did NOT appreciate my joke about "light black". :rotfl:

Since I really hate wearing anything on my wrists I will wait until Disney offers the subcutaneous implant. Then they can also monitor my habits 2,000 miles away from Disneyworld and send me offers based on where and what I'm doing at any given moment. Perhaps they could even just flash those offers right into my brain to save time. Yeah, go ahead and laugh...you KNOW that someone is working on developing this as we type.

Just an FYI....the MB's come with your name (or a nick name as you're able to chose the letters) printed on the back So sleeping in them so as to not confuse who's band is which is not necessary. Just turn it over before you put it on and read the name. Easy enough to just grab them up in a pile and sort on the bus if you're really in that much of a hurry!

And while I'm not sure yet if it was just luck or some linked thing, my teens went ahead of me to the park and when I went to get my MB to take along realized that it was one of the girls' MBs.....called them and they were in the park happily using their bands and FP+ only to realize not only was one wearing MY band.....her sister was wearing her band.

We also never gave photos or anything, so honestly, Disney isn't paying attention to who is using this...I'm sure they'll fix this somehow or maybe it's within a linked family or something....otherwise I see great potential for the masses to abuse this......I mean really, based on our experience, I wonder if someone stole my band or it fell off at an offsite restaurant or whatever, if a stranger could use my band to gain entrance. obviously they would only be able to do FP+ in the park, since they won't have my personal ID/pswd for the online stuff, but that is akin to handing your AP to someone and them getting in. Or...I have both a plastic AP and a MB linked to that AP......what's to stop me from using my card to get in and my giving the MB to someone else to get in? (Ok, for ME, it would be my conscience, but we all know those who lost theirs).

You have to scan your finger so I don't think that someone can enter a park with a lost band that they found.

As I said above, my daughter used her sister's MB and the sister used MY magic band to enter the park and to make FP+ changes and use the FP+. So that finger scan must not be very reliable....or maybe somehow with all 3 of us being in the same MDE it knows we're all related and assumes we'd mistakenly use each other's bands?

The latter is the more likely scenario, as I know the finger scans work...Disney has in the past been able to link passes purchased as a group together so there isn't confusion over who has which pass. Then any valid finger scan from that group would work. It didn't always happen though.

MDX makes it much easier to accomplish the linking.

Brings up an interesting scenario..."Honey, you're not going to a park today? OK, I'm going to switch all your FP+s selections to Epcot, while mine are at MK, and then I'll use your MB at Epcot..."

There are only two times any validation is done of the user of the MagicBand (that I've seen so far) - entry into the park (via finger scan) and purchases (via PIN).

Does anyone know how long after making a reservation it takes to be able to personalize Magic Bands online? I just booked recently for our trip in May but it still shows Key to the World cards with the option to deactivate them? A bit confused and would love some help!

I think you just have to link your res. to My Disney Experience and it will give you the option.
Nancy:thumbsup2

Do you get you magic bands before your trip? If I arrive at the Parks on a Satuday morning and don't check in until the afternoon, how will I get into the parks?
