How do I make this happen?

B]Figure out how much you need to save for the trip. Then, think about something that costs about that much to buy. Something that won't make her suspicious. Like exercise equipment, new high end computer, or an expensive plasma tv, ect.:rolleyes1 Then, tell her you want to set aside money for that each week, so you can buy it paid in full next summer. Then, she'll know about the money and see it sitting separately as you save up for your faux purchase next summer. Then, when the time comes, you spring it on her and the family that the REAL reason you've been setting aside this money is for a family trip to Disney World....yeah.[/B]

This is the best idea I've read.....this could work. OP I too handle all the money in the house.....I know where every penny goes. But DH is right now saving for a new computer.....which between me and you I really couldn't care less about......so if he came to me in a year and told me all the money he had been saving was to take the family on a vacation I would be thrilled!

Does anybody want my DHs number.....maybe you guys could give him some ideas? :rotfl:

I like the idea of saying you're saving for a big ticket item. The check idea is sneaky but brilliant too!

I would also start ebaying things here and there from around the house. Books, CDs, DVDs, stuff that won't be missed. Small things that you can get out of the house and to the post office easily. Things that are YOURS, not hers! :rotfl: Set a goal for yourself - say $50 a week?

Also, when it comes to buying your lunch during the week, try to cut back. Say you are spending $7 a day. Try to get it down to $5 a day -- e.g., don't buy a drink (drink water) or buy a case of soda and keep it in your trunk. Same thing with chips, etc. So if you can trim $10 a week here, you're up to $60/week.

So this brings you to $240/month. A good start, I think!

Maybe you can tell her that you want to start a savings acct - and then come up with a reason like, emergency fund, vacation acct, ect. Tell her you would like to put a set amt into the acct. Have your payroll dept deposit that set amt into that acct. Have the bank statments come electronicly to an email acct she doesn't have access to.
Then plan the vacation and pay for it out of that acct.
