How do i listen to my ipod in my car (without going broke)?

I DONT use the FM jack. I never liked the reception I got.

I have an older car (1999) and this is how I did it. Im not certain if it will break your budget but this solution has worked for a long time.

First, DH put in a car stereo face with a jack input. He actually had it in his car and took it out to put in mine when he sold his car (he put the original factory back in!) So technically to put that in my car cost zero, but you may or may not have that option.

Then I got a a small black cord that attaches to the input of the radio face (input in the radio) which attaches to the Belkin car Ipod charger. One end of the Belkin is in my cig lighter and the other end is in my Ipod.

The black cord is there because of where my cig lighter is placed in my car in relation to the input jack on my stereo. The black cord enables a "reach" type scenario which may or may not happen depending on your car.

It two cords but it works for me. The Belkin was about $30 and the "reach" cord we had in the house.
Heres a link for the Belkin. The small black cable runs from the input jack to the back hole of the belkin. Its a small male/male AV cable.

My newer car has an aux jack that I just plug a cable into, but our new to us minivan is an 03 and doesn't have that jack. I don't want to spend $150+ to listen to my ipod in the car, so what is my most budget friendly, yet quality option? I have found things that play through the cassette deck and fm transmitters. Any thoughts?

IMO, the cassette deck adaptors work way better than the expensive FM modulators (I use my casette deck connected to a satellite radio). You should be able to find them on eBay at a great price...

If your minivan has a DVD player, you might want to try a $3 cable... My iTouch (and others' classic iPods) work with a split cable (one red plug, one white) into the DVD player plugs on my 2004 Pacifica. It's a bit weird starting it up, but eventually the radio goes from CD to AUX and the songs start playing...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do have a DVD player in the van, so we got out a cable that we had and it did work. Thanks so much! Now I can play my ipod in my car and it didn't cost me anything!

"DVD player plugs"? my dvd player doesn't have anything that looks like a place to plug stuff in. I have a '06 Honda Pilot, with a CD changer. Am I missing something? Is there some way to adapt mine?

I would go with the cassette. I purchased 2 of the FM things and neither of them worked.

In my Pacifica, the front looks something like this. About the middle of the picture, there are three jack receivers: yellow, white & red. That's what I was talking about... (I don't know the proper lingo, and I don't actually have the video part of the DVD package - I just wanted the 6 disc player, which I now no longer use 'cause I use my iTouch!!)

Hope that helps to explain...

ETA: That is NOT my car - it's from the chrysler website... My car is all kinds of gunked up. :)

Ummm, nope. I don't have any pluggy deals that look like that. Sounds like I'll be doing the cheap speaker thing posted earlier. Figures.
