How do I get to the Campfire?

I am planning on bring DD9 to the campfire in December. I have been advied to drive and not take Disney transportation as the buses can take up to 2 hours to get back to my resort. I have asked how to get to the campfire and have gotten a lot of responses like, take a bus to Transportation center and then a bus to FW. But then there is another bus from FW to the campfire that know one seems to know exactly what bus or where to get off.

Anyway, I am staying at SSR, any specific directions out there? Disney transport or driving rental car??

You can take the yellow or the orange bus, each will let you off near the campire. It's hard to get lost, even if you somehow took the purple one, it would become yellow when it goes back toward the front. Just get off near the meadows trading post from either bus.

from Disney transportation. you would take the bus to Magic Kingdom. From MK take the Fort Wilderness boat to Fort and walk to the campfire. If MK is open late ( for xmas party) then you can take the boat back to MK and then the bus back to SSR. If not then I believe you would need to take the internal bus to the Fort wilderness entrance. then you would need to take a bus to Downtown Disney and then from DDD to your hotel.

if you drove you would need to drive to the fort and then take the internal bus to the campfire. Im not sure how far it is from SSR so i dont know if it is easier or not.

I read the other answers and they seem confusing to me, and I stay at FW all the time. So, here is my answer to try to simplify it for you.

Take your rental car and drive to FW. Go past the main entrance, into the second entrance which will be marked with a sign for parking for hoop de doo, etc. Park in the lot. Walk over to the Outpost bus depot, which you can see from the lot. Take the Orange bus, tell the driver where you are going. Get off the Orange bus at the Meadows Trading Post. You can see the campfire program from there.

All you need to do is pay for my fuel and I will gladly make sure that you get to the campfire program.

tell everyone there I said "howdy"

Don't be put off by the inaccuracies of ftwildernessguy's sig line. He's given you good advice for getting to the campfire from SSR.

Ok, is it the same for those of us staying at CBR? Would it still be better to drive to FW? We will have our own car, so driving isn't a problem. Just want to get there the best way.
Thanks.

We went to the campfire on NYE 05, we were staying at ASMu and did not have a car. Here is what we did:

From resort - Disney bus to MK

From MK - Boat to Fort Wilderness - it is usually the second stop, but just ask when you get on as sometimes the route is reversed and goes to FW before going to the Wilderness Lodge stop.

Upon arrival at FW, walk up the dock to the main area, you can see the internal bus stops or ask any CM, we saw them everywhere.

Take the Orange bus and ask the driver to let you off at the Meadows Trading Post. Ask the driver to point out the campfire.

Get off the bus, cross the street and veer slightly left to the walkway & bridge that goes over the pond/creek you can see the fire from where you got off the bus. Proceed along walkway to the other side of the pond that is right behind the trading post and that is where the campfire is held.

To return to your resort - reverse the above. If MK is closed as another poster suggested, return to the main area of FW (via Orange bus), take Disney transportation to DTD and then either the boat or bus to SSR.

It took us almost an hour in both directions, we lucked out getting boats fairly quikly upon our arrival at the dock.
Have fun, this was a great event

The directions I gave are good from any resort, and it will probably take less than an hour.
