Welcome to the madness that is Disney pin trading.
You can get plenty of information to start right here on the DIS. Check my signature for links to the Pin Trading Etiquette section on the main wdwinfo.com web site, as well as the Collectors Board FAQ. The FAQ also contains direct links to other Disney pin collector web sites, including Dizpins, Dizneypins, and Pinpics.
Get some pins at your local
Disney Store. Not only are they cheaper than pins at WDW , but they are tradable at WDW and the CMs actually enjoy seeing the TDS pins.
Check out Scoop's seminar on pin trading (info is in the FAQ).
Be careful not to go overboard, which can be easy to do. Concentrate on collecting pins of your favorites -- be it characters, rides, parks, or whatever -- and don't worry about trying to get every single pin out there.
If a CM has a pin on their lanyard backwards, take a gamble and trade for it. It could be a WDW lanyard pin or a CM pin, or it could be something you already have.
Hope this helps.
