I really really hate bugs...especially bees and wasps. I've never been stung, but deathly afraid of them. Anyway, what can I do to prevent/get rid of them? They're on our deck, which is annoying. On our fence, not as bad, I'm not by the fence much. Also though, behind our 2nd floor window shutters. TONS of them. I am not climbing up there to spray, cuz by the time you'd get down the ladder they'd be after you. I sprayed windex thru the screen at them. haha...they didn't like it for awhile but went right back in about 20 min later. So, now I'm thinking, how can we prevent it for next year? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

It appears the "nest" is still there, and they can smell that, even if 99% of it goes away. You'll have to (come the winter) take down the shutters and get rid of any trace of the nest.

In the meantime, i'd probably spray everything down with bug spray, maybe in the PM when the bugs are "sleeping".

Just be careful, wear gloves.

Spraying nests work best early in the morning or night--I'd do it around 7pm. All the bees/wasps will be in the nest for the night. The sprays they sell can be sprayed from 12 feet or so--you wont need a ladder. Good luck.

Call an exterminator... For 250.00 they sprayed the entire outside of our house & guarantee we won't have any bee's return to make a nest for nine months... so far so good! Best 250 I spent this year!!

I just had my house sided this summer and also have shutters. I haven't seen a problem with wasps/bees YET! But my contractor did tell me to be sure that whatever bug spray I got says STAIN FREE - otherwise it will ruin your siding & shutters.

We have wasps and SPIDERS (orb weaver infestation colonies in my eaves and siding) bleech, ick.

We are hiring "Bill" the exterminator and you make an appt. through his mom "Flo". (No kidding, for those who watch "Billy the Exterminator":lmao:)

He is going to spray our entire eaves and inside the house pretty cheap, 120.00 or something like that. Have to ask dh.

It is worth it to hire someone for jobs you don't want to do.

We removed our shutters and had the framing around the windows widened a bit when we added siding. No more waspy shutters. :goodvibes

Spray them at dusk, after they've all gone back into the nest so you don't get zapped by any that see you attacking then nest.
