How do I get groceries?

What is the easiest way to get groceries? We are taking Magical Express to the hotel so we can't stop on the way. Do I take a cab or what? I also read something about having them delivered. Is there a delivery service?

I'm planning on using gardengrocer.com. It's only $10 for delivery and the prices seem *FAIRLY* reasonable...in that it'll be cheaper than eating at the parks. ;) We're staying at VWL and was told they will keep the groceries cold until we're ready for them.

There are several grocery delivery services. I have used Netgrocer.com in the past and they worked out very well. The only problem is that they don't do anything perishable...no fresh, dairy, frozen.
There is also a new board sponser...GardenGrocer.com. I've heard some pretty good things about them. There is a $15 delivery charge (I think that's what it is anyway), but you can buy just about anything you want. They arrange a delivery time with you and then bring it right to you.

My choice for grcoery delivery is Gooding's (www.goodings.com), a privately-owned local supermarket. The best thing with Gooding's is that you don't need to schedule the delivery and don't need to wait for it. They deliver ONLY to your resort's Bell Services (BS), then BS calls you to see if you're in. If you're in your room, BS delivers to you immediately. If not, they leave a message for you to call them when you get back; you call and BS delivers. Gooding's separately bags and labels the cold stuff, and BS keeps the cold stuff cold for you. I just LOVED the convenience of not having to schedule the delivery!

Gooding's charges a flat $10 delivery fee, and there's a $50 minimum. The selection on their website is pretty limited, but you can order anything they stock on their shelves, you just include it in an e-mail. They were great with my silly special requests. For example, for the 6 of us I ordered something like 5 pounds of bananas, and I specifically asked that some be green and some be ripe so we would have ripe bananas all week, and they came through with flying colors. My deli order came sliced thin like I asked for. And they didn't have the 18-ounce jar of peanut butter like I ordered but instead they supplied two 12-ounce jars for the price of the one 18-ounce jar.

In addition to what's listed on the other posts above, I've also read a lot of very positive reviews about wegoshop.com, a delivery service that will shop wherever you want them to. But I was sold on Gooding's convenience, the whole not needing to schedule the delivery thing.

I've used netgrocer twice and had pretty good luck with them. Mostly just purchased bottled water (they have the stuff I drink from Maine). My only advice for them is to order at least 10-12 days in advance. You can always reschedule the delivery for free when you get the actual shipping dates but in July 04, I placed an order with them, but when the confirmation came through, it wasn't due to arrive until 3 days before I was leaving. I canceled the order and just used the free grocery stop with my town car service.

Cheers!

We just walk to Goodings from the DTD bus stop. Its a long, well lit sidewalk to Crossroads. We always go in the evening and take one of our rolling duffle bags for the return trip. We prefer to pick our own stuff and most services won't deliver alcohol. You can walk there and cab back to DTD and then bus to your resort , taxi's are not cheap but alot of stuff would dictate the cab back. We have taken beer, pop, chips and sandwich making to the bus stop at DTD and transported it all to our resort, either Poly or WL with no problem. Its a ritual now, we go the first day since we're not going to any parks that day and we do it at the end of our DTD exploring, and we're in our 50's.

I am planning to use GardenGrocer this summer based on feedback on the DVC boards.. Goodings delivers, but thier original charges are so HIGH!!!! Plus if you want beer/wine etc I understand you can call GardenGrocer and they will deliver. Goodings won't do that....

Good point that Gooding's does NOT deliver alcohol. From what they told me, it's because they have no way of verifying your age. They deliver to Bell Services, not to you, and since they never see you they can't KNOW that you're of legal age. You could be a smart 18-year-old who thought he found a loophole in the system!

We been doing Goodings a few trips, walking ,and we have laughed our way back with a couple of cases of beer, 12 packs of pop and bags of chips, bread and bologna and cheese. The rolling duffle has made the trek easier and I hate paying the high cab fare. Evenings are cool and it gets my legs ready for the week ahead and when we get back to the resort, we have our libations and evening pool ritual and bologna sandwiches. Watch the EWP and Wishes and thank God, we're in Disney World!
