How do I edit this picture?

This is one of my favorite pictures of my youngest DD but I have no idea how to get that man and his child out of the picture. Is there a way to do that? I don't usually do much editing of my photos, so I'm not sure where to start. Not sure if it matters, but the pick was taken with the camera on my cell phone. Thank you for any help you can give me!

The easiest way would be to simply crop them out, but if you want to keep the horizon and sky it would require an advanced editing software like Photoshop.

Personally, I think cropping it just below their feet and trying to lighten (bring out the shadows) up your daughter would make for a better image than erasing them. Not sure how much you can lighten though from a cell phone image.

I personally would not cut anything from this shot as it looks great (to my eyes) the way it is. The presence of the man and child in the background has a "story-telling" element and (for me) enhances the image. I like the way their silhouette contrasts against the sky and the way they give you a sense of depth to the image.

The way I would edit this is to bring out some shadow detail on your daughter as fractal suggested. I could give this a shot when I get home to my MBP.

dis2.jpg Never uploaded a pic here before, but let's see if this works.

Just ran it through Elements quick to crop and had to do a super fast edit to take out the reflections of the people standing behind her.

It's not perfect by any means, but I only had about 2 mins to do it...and the people are gone. LOL

Thanks everyone! I really didn't want to crop the pic as I love the ocean and the skyline behind her. I think I'll see if I can get photoshop and see what I can do. I really appreciate the suggestions!

Nice work, Python. :)

I had almost the exact same issue with a family photo I took on the beach this summer. I used a clone stamp in PSE and was pretty happy with the results.

@PythonFan888 Thank you so much! This looks great.

Her birthday is tomorrow and I was hoping to be able to use this pic on Facebook and now I can! Yay!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help.

How easy is it to learn photoshop?

That really depends on your level of technical skill. For simple editing it's very easy to use, for more advanced stuff there's a learning curve, but there are so many resources available for learning. You'll get what you put into it.

Thank you for replying. I appreciate it.
