How do I do this-points expiring

I have some points that were put back in my account because I had to cancel a couple of nights of a reservation that we have coming up. Our use year expires June1 and we will not be able to use these points and we cannot bank them. But I have a friend going to Disney on a package deal and staying at Port Orleans. Can I change out a couple of nights and let her have the points and she get her money back from the package she had already booked? She will be going before our points expire. Thanks for any insight.

If you have enough points for a night or two at POR, sure, but I would think you could give her the whole trip at OKW for what a night or two at POR would cost in points. She would need to be within her cancelation period at POR to not have to pay for those nights twice.

A lot depends on your friend's package. Plus your friend is well within the penatly period for cancellation. I think the first thing to do is to have your friend call Disney and see what happens if she/he changes the reservation. At a minimum, there may be issues with the tickets. (If the tickets are tied to the room on thier package) Also, if they got dining that will not be on the room you are giving them.

It's not just a swap points for cash at Disney. It's probably a little more compliacated then that. (And then of course you have to get the room on points at POR. That's not guranteed and bookings at the hotels are up!)

If your friend's package includes the dining plan, she may not want to cancel and rebook some of the nights on points. If she does, she will not be able to get the dining plan for the points nights.

If your friend is able to cancel without losing too much money, the best thing is probably to book at one of the DVC resorts (if there is still availability). IMHO, of the DVC resorts, OKW is most like POR.

Im confused. If her friend cancels POR and rebooks as a 'renter' using OP's DVC points, why couldn't she get the dining plan?

Unless she is going in Sept on the free dining option, she can book DDP at OKW the same as any other resort.

The OP wants to give her friend a room at POR, it's my understanding that you cannot buy dining when using points outside of the DVC resorts. (ie POR)

Since they are within the 45 day cancellation period for packages, there will be a $$ penalty for any changes made to the package reservation.

In addition, the DVC dining plan is available only for stays at DVC resorts and not for Disney Collection stays using points.

I'd sure be careful before trying to make changes to a package this close to arrival date.

You could try to rent your points thru the Rent/Trade Board.

and since you are near the end of your use year, you are limited as to what you can use the points for. If you check your member handbook and you'll see that you cannot book or travel for member getaway vacations (which disney collection is a member of) within the last 60 days of your use year.

This means your options would be to rent or transfer your points (transfer is only available as an option if the points aren't banked or borrowed points).

or you could use the points within the seven villa resorts (but availibilty could be an issue)
