how do I check which plane we will be on in October

Presumably if I had an ounce of knowhow I could look on the Virgin Atlantic website and check where I have booked my seats to see if we will be on a new A330 or not but I don't know what's going on. Any tips?

Also (forgive the stupid questions but my DS has asked me and I have no idea how to answer) - why change to a plane that is slower? Presumably it is cheaper and therefore we will get a fuel refund

Reason for a "slower" plane is fuel economy and payloads, not the requirement at the moment for so many seats as on the 747s

At this moment in time the A330 G-VSXY and G-VKSS are flying VS076 VS075 (MAN-MCO-MAN)
VS831 VS832 (GLA-MCO-GLA) only.

All LGW-MCO flights as far as I know, currently are serviced by 747's only.

Of course, in times of low demand, this may change when the second A330 is in operation.

As said above, in times of low demand. Why fly a half empty 747 when you can fly a 66% full A330? Most people on here however, fly on peak demand days, so the possibility of an A330 in the summer is low on those days. Of course if a 747goes tech and seat loads fit, then that might happen.
Only dispatch knows for certain.

If you have a Virgin Atlantic booking number, you can go onto the VA website and on the right hand side, there is a box that says 'My booking' - if you go into that it will tell you about your flight and you may also be able to select your seats too! Im not 100% certain but I believe that they could change the plane though at any time so be prepared for either one of them!

As we do not know what day you fly, the information given by Obi Wan Kenobi and Orangetiggs may give you your answer!

Orangetiggs....please keep bothering to give advice, based on the fact that the OP has not stated the day that they fly, I think the info that you have given was great and if I was the OP, I would be very grateful of your answer!

i am very grateful for all the answers (though I had to scroll to see if I had suggested that I was not - the confusion of it all). We go on a Saturday from LGW at the beginning of October half-term so it sounds as though we are on a 747.

Ooops sorry chocolateMinnie....I didnt mean it to come across how it may have done - I was trying to tell orangetiggs to keep posting as I and I am sure everyone else are grateful for her input and knowledge even if it seemed that she was getting answers fired back at her to everything she said, I know we all come here for help & advice and I would not suggest for one minute that anyone would not be grateful for the replies!

I said 'I and I am sure everyone else are.......' so how is that saying except you? I am not part of any clique on here, in fact other than a few times over the last couple of weeks, I have not posted on the Disboards since sometime earlier last year - I did however decide to reply to the OP and when reading the responses that she had already received, I thought that you challenged everything orangetiggs had said to which she replied that she doesnt know why she bothers posting - I know from the past, she has given some great advice where VA and other things are concerned and I for one do not want her to stop posting.

If you are so bothered by any 'cliques' and dont like it when people either do not agree with you or have further information than what you have already said, then why wind yourself up and come on here to post? I am genuinely saying this in the nicest possible way, Im not here to wind anyone up but we all come on the boards for the same reason, to either get or offer advice and when any advice that we give is challenged and sometimes belittled, then it will start to upset people. The poster could be in the same position as me. I have a V.A. booking reference but can't access my booking on their website.I mailed them to ask why,basically unless you have paid full upfront for your tickets (I have only paid myTA a deposit at present) you can't access your booking.

Oh I didnt realise that as when I have booked with Virgin Atlantic or Travel City Direct in the past, I have always been able to access my booking and provisionally reserve my seats, even before I have paid the full balance. Must be a new thing - before, the other agents have given me their own booking reference number and when I have requested a VA booking reference, they have given it to me no problem! I booked last year with Travel City Direct for October and reserved my seats quite a long time in advance so things must have changed since then

Only reason I pointed out how to find it on the website is that OP said if they had the knowhow, they could check it themselves

I am honestly grateful to everyone for their feedback LisaX no offence taken just thought somehow I'd worded something wrongly and caused a kerfuffle.

I can get into the VA website and have been able to do so with all of your feedback and I am not in any cliques so just come on here for help when I'm stuck.
