How do I check in online? How long does it take?

Hi all,

I have never used online check-in before and I am hoping to find out some more details about it, to make sure I get it right.

Our Virgin flight is at 10:30 on Saturday 16th so when they say online check in opens 24 hours before - will it literally be 10:30 on Friday 15th? How long does it take? Our party is 6 people (on one booking reference), so do I just do one check-in for the whole party or do I have to check each person in separately? We put seat number requests in a while back and they are still showing under the Manage my Booking section but I know they aren't guaranteed.

Do I need passport numbers? ESTA numbers?

Please can you advise me on this as I want to be as prepared as possible as I am the only one of the party available at that time to check-in!

Many thanks!

Yes, it is literally 24 hours in advance so as soon as10:30 Friday comes around you'll be able to check in :)

It only takes a few minutes to do. You can check in for the whole party, but you are required to give details for each person travelling so yes, you will need their Passport Numbers. Don't need ESTA info though.

It's been a while since I did it with Virgin but think that's all you need.

You can do it once for the whole group.

You will need booking reference and you may have to add the others as it sometimes only brings up the lead passenger.

Try to complete the API before as it should make check in quicker. You may or may not need to re-enter this during check in.

Virgins IT department could rival Disney for producing the most inconsistent functioning systems :rotfl:

I think from memory it's a good idea to print the page that evidences you've done this.

Never printed anything as I usually check in from my phone and never had an issue. They usually email confirmation that it has been completed.

I don't print off papers either. Save confirmations to Evernote and make the notebook available off-line. That way I have access to all documents even if there is no wi-fi available :)
