How do GTY rooms work?

We just booked a spontaneous cruise that leaves 14 days from now LOL. We have a GTY 5E and im curious as to how it works. I understand the process, but im wondering how DCL does it. Will we be assigned one of the available rooms on the ship? Or do they specifically hold rooms for this? Ive searched all over the internet and havent found an answer yet. There's only about 2-3 verandah rooms that are 5e or above, and im wondering if we will be assigned one of those, or if they have others?

They want flexibility as you booked late, so they will have pencilled in a room for you, but could chsnge it, if others book, or others cancel. You will be advised when they finalise.

We are on a cruise on Wednesday, and a person just cancelled, DCL anticipate like airlines that a percentage of people will cancel.
