How do Disney Visa Rewards work?

We are going on our first family trip in March and I am wondering when I should contact Visa for our rewards. I don't want to wait too long but I also want all my credit for double rewards for November and December -- which from the other boards I have been reading could be an extra two months. HELP!!!

It ususally doesn't take very long to get your rewards card - a couple of weeks at the most.

If you receive additional dollars before you go, you can transfer them online or by phone and they show up immediately.

The only caution I have it that once you transfer reward dollars to the rewards card, they do expire in about 1 year. If something happens to postpone your trip - it happened to us at the last minute - you would have to use the reward dollars before they expire.

We did reschedule, and our reward dollars paid for our room and then some. It was great!! Have a wonderful trip!!!

With all my Christmas shopping, I now have enough Rewards points to cover the cost of one DVC discounted adult AP. We're not traveling again until next year so maybe I'll get enough for the second AP by the time we go.

So you never lose the dollars if you don't transfer them to a card in a timely manner?

No, the only dollars that have an expiration date are those that have been transferred to the rewards card.

I'm pretty sure they do expire after 5 years.

I thought that was only if there hadn't been any activity for 5 years (kinda like airline frequent flyer miles). Guess now I better go read the fine print.

They do exprie in 5 years:

From "Your Guide to Disney Dream Reward Dollars":

"Subject to earlier termination or redemption as provided herein, Disney Dream Reward Dollars accrued in your Program Account will expire sixty(60) billing cycles following the billing cycle in which they were first earned and will be redeemed and expired on a first-in, first-out basis."

Also, your VISA account still has to be opem in order to redeem your reward dollars.

You are correct - I just went and read the rules too. It shouldn't be a problem for us as we're always spending money on Disney things.

What double rewards? I think I've missed something.

Many folks have posted about receiving an offer stating they will receive double rewards dollars during certain months, but the criteria has differed somewhat. Some have said they had to spend $750 in a month prior to receiving the double rewards while others have posted a minimum requirement of $1500 or $2500 in a month. Also, double rewards may be only on particular purchases such as grocery stores, gas, etc.

I am only reporting what I have read as I have never received any of these offers in my bill. This is also from memory.
