How do characters stay cool in their costumes?

They don't stay out for long and they go inside frequently.

I'd hate to smell the interior of one of those things.

I think that is why they are on a 25 minute schedule or something like that.

I feel sorry for those guys...............but I am definatly glad they are there.

When I did the Keys To The Kingdom tour, the tour guide told some stories about how it wasn't uncommon for the characters to pass out sometimes. Especially after a parade. I guess they have tables and tables or ice water at the end of a parade so the dancers and characters can cool themselves off with either by drinking or dunking!

She mentioned that being Pooh bear was like being wrapped in a down comforter! Poor Pooh!

I asked that question of a CM when I was there and they said they don't have anything to keep them cool. And your right - what costume?

They don't stay cool inside at all. A friend that we met down in Disney a few years ago had a daughter that used to work for Disney. The daughter told me that she put a thermomator inside the head and it reached over 120 degrees! During the hotter months they go 20 on and 40 off.

The floats in the "Share a Dream Come True" parade are all air conditioned...

I'ver never seen anyone in costume at WDW , well, except at Mickey's NSSHP.., lots of people dress up then!

I don't think the globes are air conditioned. Wouldn't that cause them to fog up? I'm pretty sure they're not.

Yes you are correct. I forget where I read or heard it but I did hear that they are not ACed due to the fact that they would fog up. This presented a big problem especially during the summer months.

Yeah, when we took the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, we got to go look behind the scenes at all the globe floats. Our CM doing the tour was telling us how they originally tried to put A/C into the globes, but it kept fogging up. So, they don't have any A/C in there.

Can you imagine?!! Being under glass, in costume in 100 degree weather? Crazy!

Those globes where nasty in my opinion. I notice that they weren't being used the last couple of times I have caught the parade. Plus it's near impossible to use auto-focus on my camera and get a good photo..they definitely looked foggy in my pictures. Maybe it's my claustrophobia, but I thought it was terrible that the Princesses where locked away in a snow-globe!

CM's do an awesome job keeping their cool in those costumes. If it were me, I would have gone on a Minnie rampage in that heat!

hmm...it seems Imagineers could come up with some sort of 'still' suit (did anyone read Dune?) to cool off folks in costumes, if there were any folks in costume-
a 'still' suit was a type of body suit--somewhat like a diver's wetsuit-- that recirculated, well.., but Disney could use regular water-- to cool off the wearer--
they could use Mr Herbert's idea of recirculating fluids, that way no pesky breaks

Oh my! I think the OP must be very confused Wherever did they get that idea about costumes? LOL Just kidding.

I once got to be the Easter Bunny, INDOORS, and let me tell you, it was miserable hot. I find it amazing that the WDW characters are even out for 20 minutes at a time during the HOT months, which for Florida is practically ALWAYS.

I guess that's why seeing them is so magical for me. I actually know what they are going through and they do it without ever seeming to be fazed by the heat.

A friend who introduced my wife and I in college worked at DL (mid 80's) during the summers as one of the dwarfs. Twice a day they would follow Snow White from the front of the park back to the rear parade exit by Small World. They fondly referred to this as the "Death March" during the hot days. That was California...I couldn't even begin to imagin working in the FL parks in the summer.

It seems like there would be a way to rig a battery operated fan in the huge heads of those things!!! Those poor people!!!

That sounds good but the hiss and fire hazard would make it hard.

The cool suits are the way to go Nascar has them and they also make one with the cooling gel that stays cool for a longer period of time.

I use a cool band for both my head and one on my neck on hot days playing paintball due to having to wear a mask and other gear.They work very well to keep your temp down.
