How do cancellations work with Southwest?

I have not flown in a long time, and never on Southwest. In July, we booked our Nov tickets to Disney. We're still going back and forth as to whether we're going to drive or fly. If we decide to drive, how do cancellations work? Would we lose everything? Get a refund? Be able to have a credit towards future flights? If a credit, how soon would it have to be used? Thanks!

You will receive a credit for the full amount, which has to be applied to travel which has to be completed within one year of the original purchase date.
It is also transferrable to another person. IE: You cancel, the funds are held. You can then make reservations for anyone you want with the held funds.

If you booked a refundable fare, you'll get it all back. If you booked any other fare, you can get the tax refunded back to your credit card, and the base cost of the fare as a credit. You then have one year to use the credit (doesn't have to be the same person that the fare was for - so if you aren't going to travel, but know someone who is, they can use your credit) Just hang onto your confirmation number from the cancelled flight. When the next flight is booked, there is a section in the checkout where you just enter the confirmation number and the name of whoever paid for it originally. It'll deduct the amount left on that credit from the total of the new flight.
