How do beds differ in various resorts?

We stayed at the Pop and found the beds not to be all too comfortable. Definitely sufficient since we were so exhausted at the end of the day, and totally worth it for the benefits of staying on property, but since our next Disney vacation is three years away we have time to save for a higher level resort if we feel that is what we want to do at the time.

Now, one thing as I said, was the comfort of the beds. They definitely could have been better, and we had much better quality at the Fairfield Inn & Springhill Suites by Marriott on the way down to Florida, as well as (of course!) the Embassy Suites in Boca Raton for 4 days before Disney. So we were spoiled a little by those. Plus they were queen beds (and a king in Boca Raton), so the size was the other thing. Going from a queen or king to a double is hard!! Do the moderate resorts have queen beds or doubles? Are the beds much more comfy than the values? That would be a reason I would stay at a mod. Or only deluzes have queens and more comfy beds? Maybe we could swing a deluxe, like the more inexpensive rooms (hate to use the word "cheaper") at Contemporary, or the Wilderness Lodge (I think my boys would love the theming there) but I would like to know first if the mods have the comfy and bigger beds!

Also, how much bigger are the mod rooms than the value ones, and how much bigger are the deluxes? Can you compare these to any popular hotel chains? Pop felt to me more like a Days Inn, only much cleaner and they don't allow pets!! Oh and of course, awesome theming!!

Technically, the beds at the mods are advertised and doubles. In actuality, they are the same width as doubles, but a few inches longer. (A secret a few CMs shared with me...all this time I though that somehow DH and I just magically fit better at the mod resorts.:wizard: ) As far as 'comfort', not really much of a change. Of course, I prefer a firmer bed so I may not be the best judge.

I wish Disney would go the "Dream" bed route. I like to stay at Marriot's alot and boy do they have comfy beds too. So does Starwood resorts like Sherton etc.

I cringe when I see pictures of a hotel with those scratchy type bed spreads. This is what I have seen with Disney even in the Contemporary (but that was a few years ago). The value's definately are the normal non comfy beds. I've been spoiled staying in hotels with pillowtop mattresses and pads and comfy down comforters and pillows - AHH. Feels like home.

Same for me, I love the comfy beds and the duvets! Do the deluxes really have those scratchy blankets with only a sheet under them? If so we just may go with a value again (not for 3 years, but still...I need to think of my next Disney vacation already even though we just got back!!!).

We thought the beds at POR were really high off the floor. They weren't the most comfortable beds in the world, but they worked. I didn't think the rooms at the mods are any larger than the rooms at the value resorts. Nor did I think a room at GF was any larger than at a mod. I did, however, think the room (in the Tower building) at the CR was larger than any others, at least at the resorts where we've stayed throughout the years.

We are booked in a Family suite at ASMu Nov 30-Dec 6. :cool1: We are anxious to try the Queen bed out. Hoping it is comfy. We stayed at Pop last year and found the beds to be horribly hard and small.:scared1:

Except for the family suites at ASMu, you have to go deluxe to get a queen bed. We definitely found the room much bigger at Poly than POR. The beds much more comfortable too. Mostly, I think because they are queens. That extra space makes a big difference for us. We tried going back to POR to save money but now that our 3 boys are bigger the extra space that a deluxe room gives us is a must for a comfortable stay.

Is the rate generally the same for a family suite at ASMu as it is for standard at a deluxe? The mother of one of my son's classmates said they are going in August and are getting a family suite at ASMu because there will be 5 of them and they wanted to extra space of a suite rather than a regular room at a deluxe. How many people maximum does a family suite hold?

I believe a family suite holds 6 max. They are generally cheaper than a deluxe. AllEars says they're $184 during value season. They have the extra space just not all the extra amenities a deluxe offers.

Try the Swan or Dolphin if the bed is more important than the theming. They are Starwood Resorts, and have very comfortable beds.

We will be leaving on a red eye from SO. Cal. late Thursday. We will be staying at the Swan for our second time. The beds are very nice, and the location is very convenient.

I have thought about the Swan or Dolphin in the past, but we loved the DDP so much on this trip and it is not an option at the Swan or Dolphin resorts.

As with many other tough choices in life, I would suggest making a list of pros and cons.

It would be nice if you could participate in the dining plan, but on the other hand, how many other WDW Deluxe rooms can you book with points?

We have used points to cover the full cost of our balcony room at the Swan for 5 nights each of our two stays. The rooms at the Swan also have two Queen size beds.

The Starwood program is one of the best credit card programs out there. It is tied in with American Express.

Side note - While I don't encourage putting yourself in major debt with credit cards, these programs apply even if you pay off your balance monthly, so why not.

Also, if you have had a credit card for a while that has a really high interest rate, call the credit card company and tell them that there are many better deals available, and you are going to have to switch to another unless they reduce your apr. We did this with our American Express, and they lowered it from about 18% to about 10%.

We stayed at POP on our last trip for one night before our package started at WL. The POP beds were terrible. Don't get me wrong, I love POP, but the bed was awful. We moved to WL the next night and we were in heaven in those beds. They were wonderful. I just switched my one night from POP to WL after the MVMCP. I don't care if we are going to be there for a short time, I know I will sleep great!!! And the rooms are so quiet!

Value resorts are 260 sq ft (some king beds are available).
ASM suites: 520 SF

POFQ, POR, & CSR rooms are 314 SF (also, CSR has a few suites available). CBR rooms are 340 SF.

WL rooms are 340 SF, AKL 344 SF, BC, YC & BWI are 380 SF, GF are 400, poly's are 409 SF, & CR 422 SF.

FWHs are 504 SQ.

btw, i don't recall the bedding at the mods, but all the deluxes & DVCs we've stayed at have a top sheet, along with a blanket (not scratchy) and lightweight comforter.

hth :)

Last August they upgraded the linens in the CR. I know this for a fact since the Sunday-Friday night sheets were softer and more comfortable than the sheets we had the previous Saturday. The bed was pillow-top and very comfortable. Even the day-bed was a comfortable mattress, but not pillow-top.

On my last three trips(WL, CBR, WL) I thought the beds were very uncomfortable in both the first night. After that, maybe I just so tired from a long day in the parks(and getting up early) that the beds were fine. Now if you want a great bed.......stay in a Westin hotel with the "heavenly bed". They do not exaggerate, they are heavenly.
