How do AP discounts work?

Can you book the discount before you have the AP as long as you purchase it before checking in or does it need to be purchased before you book?

Also, what is the typical AP discount? Is it just for certain dates (I saw that right now for certain dates it's $61 off mods, for example) or is there at least some availability all year?

You can book AP rates before you actually have an AP, however, you'll need the AP or voucher when you check into the resort. Types of discounts I've seen in the past are: $20 off Value, $45 off Mods and over $100 off Deluxe Resorts.

I was going to buy one for our upcoming May trip to AKL - Rack Rate was $265, AAA rate $238, AP rate $164
BUT...
The AP ws $462. 6 Day hopper from Undercover Tourist was $249. Still worth it,, because I was saving $440 on the room.
BUT...
With the new codes that came out, I can get the same room for $174 without having to spend the extra $200+ for the AP.
