How difficult would it be to take the bus to the beach from Disneyland ?

We are able to stay an extra day, and would enjoy an afternoon at the beach.

We don't have a car, and we are staying across the street from Disneyland.
Just my daughter and I. :goodvibes

Has anyone tried this ? How long does it take ? Would we have to transfer busses ?

Any info would be great ! Thanks. :thumbsup2

I've never done this but I live in Redondo Beach and when I drive to DL it could take me at least an hour or more to drive and I drive fast. I'm sure the bus will take a very long time with muliple transfers, however I could be wrong. Personally I wouldn't attempt this especially if you have a young daughter, the time it would take and most likely the bus will travel through some iffy areas.

It really isn't too bad. DLR is not that far from the beach.

Check out www.octa.net for the public bus schedule.

I did a quick trip planner from DLR to Huntington State Beach using the OCTA site. It looks like it takes about an hour and 20 minutes each way with only one transfer.

You can also take the bus to Newport Pier in about the same amount of time but I think that route leaves from a better place and you still only have to transfer one time. You'll like Newport Pier better than Huntington State Beach. The Huntington Beach Pier is further, but you can try that.

That site gives you all the information on bus transfers, stops, maps, etc.

Of course you can take a cab and it would be much faster.

Bottom line is that this is a very viable option.

Here's a list of the grey line tours from Disneyland:

Catalina is the only real beach destination they go to.

We did the Catalina tour a long, long time ago... it was fun.

If I just wanted to go to the beach for the day we'd probably just rent a car for a day or perhaps take a taxi.

Just a rent a car from Downtown Disney. There is an Alamo there and it was pretty cheap if I remember correctly.

Catalina is nice for a day tour type of thing--but it really isn't the "beach" experience that most people think of when they want to go to the beach in so Cal. The boat ride over is really rough, too. People can get very sea sick on that ferry due to high waves.

Most people who want to see the beach who are in the Disneyland area are thinking more of Huntington Beach, Newport or Laguna. These are the sandy beaches that have parking area and you just drive right up to park and then carry your umbrellas and chairs and things to the beach to swim or relax. We went yesterday and had a great day, as the weather has been very warm here this weekend! We went to the beach near Palos Verdes, because that is where we are staying with my inlaws.

I did the Woody Beach Bus Tour last year and thought that it was great. The guide was very informative during the drive too. I don't know if they still offer it, but last year they had a deal whereby if you booked one beach day with them, a second beach day was half price.

Ohhh, was it RAT beach (Right After Torrance)? That's my guess--I grew up there. I'd say either RAT beach or Torrance beach.

Totally off-topic, sorry.

Carry on.

I think the Woody type tour would be your best bet for a beach day. It's definitely doable on the city bus but it does take a while. I prefer Huntington Beach for the "going to the beach" type thing (just swimming, sand, etc.) and Newport for the pier experience.

Thanks for the info. The Woody bus looks like something my daughter and her friend may be interested in. So, anyone else who has done the tour and would like to share info?

My 11 year old son and I did the Woody beach tour in June. The bus picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off there as well. The driver was very informative about the beaches and showed us where to go and what to do. We liked Newport Beach and Laguna Beach the best. We stayed at each of those beaches for about 3 hours. We did the harbor tour at Newport Beach also and that was fun. I highly recommend the tour as a way to do the beach without having to rent a car or figure out the bus schedules. The price was reasonable too.
