How difficult is it to reserve other DVC resorts?

I have spent many vacations at WDW, had an annual pass twice, and got engaged and honeymooned there (May 03 & Mar 04) so I recently decided to take the plunge and joing DVC - just got my paperwork in the mail today!

I was wondering how difficult it is to get reservations at other DVC resorts. My family likes to go down for Christmas frequently and, of course, I'd like to check out all of the DVC locations over time. Has anyone had any difficulty getting into a resort that's not their home resort during the holidays?

First of all, welcome to the DIS and most especially to the DVC Forum!

If I wanted to stay over Christmas at a non-home resort, I'd call day by day as soon as the 7 month window opened. Christmas is popular and you may have to use the waitlist to get some or all of your days. IMHO (and that is all it is, LOL), you should be able to get in somewhere. The smaller resorts (BCV & VWL) will probalby be the most difficult.

It is very unlikely that you would be able to secure a standard view or a guaranteed Boadwalk view at7 months at the BWV, but a Preferred View - Pool/Garden there is very possible.

Congratualtions and welcome home! :teeth:

P.S. I'd make reservations at my home resort at 11 months and then try to switch at 7 months. That way, if something didn't work out, I'd still have a place to stay and after all, I bought where I wanted to stay most often (or at least where I wouldn't mind staying if nothing else worked out)!

I just made ressies for Christmas yesterday, and BWV was sold out for studios. I could get some of my days at BC, it was "iffy" at OKW, but rooms were available at SSR and VWL, so that's where I am staying(VWL). BWV are consistently the most difficult to book--I rent my points out every now and then, and EVERYONE asks for BWV as a first choice. In the fall, BWV is always booked first. However, it's just 4 months until Christmas, and if you don't wait until now to book, you probably won't have any trouble.

I would make my reservations for Christmas week at my home resort. It is by far the busiest time down there. If you want to stay at other resorts, then try it some other time rather than Christmas, at 7 months out.

I disagree with the last part. Make your home resort reservations but you should be able to switch to somewhere else at the 7 month mark. This year there were quite a few things available at 7 months. We were there last year at Christmas and it's a great time to be at WDW and DVC.
