Since everyone says it all depends on which resort at what time of year, I can be real specific:

I want to stay at Boardwalk (either studio or 1 bedroom) during the 1st week in December. Will I need to book day to day as soon as the 7 month window opens or will there be some availablity 5 to 6 months out?

I'm specifically interested in PREFERRED VIEWS - both Boardwalk View and pool/garden view.

Thanks in advance for any info or advice you can provide!

Sincerely,
Dave

I think you will be able to get a pool/garden view at 7 months but not for long after that. I don't think you will get a Boardwalk or standard view. I think you should call anyway on the first day and ask how it looks. The CM will tell you and you can decide whether or not you need to call every day or not.

I haven't tried but just from what I have read on this message board, I would start day by day at 7 months and don't be afraid to wait list.

It's busy time for DVC since it falls in the lowest points/per night category and the Festive season is getting into full swing.

Don't know when but I heard the POP Warner football & Cheerleader thing early in Dec is something to try to avoid(they don't stay at DVC, but read about some obnoxious behavior in the parks).

I'm just wondering how hard it would be to get into VB 2br for Spring Break at 7 months.

You absolutely need to call day by day. The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is the most popular time of the year for the BWV. If you don't call day by day, you will have to waitlist for some or all of your days and it is very possible that you will not get all of them. The competiton for rooms at the smaller resorts is increasing - there are many members who are willing to call day by day to get what they want and many of them want early December at VWL, BCV & the BWV.

Do not count on getting either standard view or guaranteed Boardwalk view even with a waitlist. It's a very good bet that there will be waitlists for those booking categories before the 7 month window even opens.

When the 7 month window opens, if you call day by day as soon as MS opens for the day (and don't forget the Saturday hours), and waitlist for any day that isn't available you should be able to get a PV - Pool/Garden room.

FWIW, we've stayed at the BWV in either a standard view or a Boardwalk view during this time every year since 2000. I call day by day at 11 months to be sure of getting what I want. On one occasion (in 2002), I forgot to call until about 2 in the afternoon. The CM told me I got the last available SV room. A huge chunk of the BWV owners own at the BWV just because they want to stay in the Boardwalk view rooms or save points by staying in the SV rooms. Those owners use the 11 month window!

Now it won't surprise me to see posts saying that they got SV or BW view at 7 months or less and didn't call day by day. Many of those posts will not be for stays during early December, and those that are, will absolutely be an exception. So don't assume you will be as lucky. Call day by day.

Good luck!

Do you think the last week of Dec. into the 1st week of January would be easier? I am planning a trip Sun. Dec30th- Sun. Jan. 6th. I am thinking about trying for a 2 bdrm (or 2 studios) at BWV day by day as the 7mo. window opens up. Is this a less busy time for DVC than early Dec.? I keep hearing people say early Dec. is the busiest.

Yup, first week of December is very difficult to book at DVC resorts. Last week of December into January wouldn't be any better. The week after that -- starting the week of January 4-10 -- that would be a better bet.

I've often read posts stating NYE is the hardest night to book.

I had last minute (4 month ahead) additions to a GG I was doing, and I was able to get a studio for the family for the 3rd week in December at BWV. That was the only room that I "had" to pay for the preferred view, that close to the dates, the waitlist for SV didn't come up.

If you call day by day at 7 months, you'll get into BWV, don't know if you'd get Boardwalk view or SV even from the waitlist.

This is the specific reason why I finally bought a resale at BWV of 200 points. Before marrying my husband we would try to meet up the first or second week of December at BWV. He would be booked 11 months ahead since he was a BWV owner. I on the other hand, had to wait for the 7 month booking window. After two years in a row of being unable to get anything at all at BWV for that time frame, I finally bought the resale and from then on had no problem of course.

So, I would not count on getting anything at all at BWV for that time so late in the year. Usually are wait lists long before then.

I started calling today for our early December stay at BWV because I want a Boardwalk view. Just like we had the first time we visited in December of 2000!

I agree.

I totally agree. I had no problem booking a SV room for May in late October, but I'm calling day by day for my BW view studio that first week of December.
