How did you/your DSO Propose???

OK, I admit it, I am a little strange. I collect Engagement stories (for those of you who have seen some of my posts, I am in the Jewelry business and this question is an occupational hazzard)

I gues I will start off with my story...

How I proposed...A Disney Fairy Tale:

The Background: We have had some problems previously with bus service at the hotel we stayed at this trip. I spent a couple of months building up to her that I kept complaining about this service problem (Side note, the service was much better this trip).



Disney World had an entire department dedicated just to engagements. I have to take a moment to thank Kim and Stacey there. I know it was their job, but I don't think I could have pulled it off without them.



We had scheduled this trip to Walt Disney World about 6 months prior, not realizing that the Magic Kingdoms "Fantasy in the Sky" presentation was only on Fridays and Saturdays in October, 2000. We were to arrive after it, on Saturday. I have a friend (You know who you are, Thank you again!!!!!) who bent a few rules on our air travel for me. If that person hadn't helped, I could not have pulled it off either.



Travel Itinerary: I called RRBB up a couple of weeks before we left and told her that there was a problem in re-confirming our flights. It seemed that we got bumped from a 6:30PM flight to a 6:30AM flight. Our original flight number wasn't valid any more. They must have changed the flight numbers, they do that occasionally, and messed up the time by 12 hours. I told her that we didn't want to change it, because at this time we both already knew about the fireworks problem. She bought it!



Arrival at the hotel: When we checked in, there was a note to greet us. It thanked us for allowing them another chance to improve their service, and invited us on a cruise. We were to be "Guests of Honor" for a special viewing of the "Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks" presentation in front of "Magic Kingdom", from "The Best Seat In The World." I read it, handed it to her, and said that this looked fun. She said "Wow, See what complaining gets you! Now I'm really glad they messed up the flights!" Again, She Bought it!



At Dinner: We talked, and had a toast to our dating for so long; we usually acknowledge the monthly anniversary of our first date. Our 28th month anniversary was 3 days prior, and we had said we would celebrate it at Walt Disney World. I told her I was a little tired, and asked her if she wanted to skip the boat ride. She told me that this boat trip seemed special and reminded me how much I wanted to see the fireworks. Again, She Bought it!



On The Dock: When we reached the edge of the pier, there no one else was there. She commented on how busy the boat might be. She asked me if I had an opinion on how many of these invitations went out, I declined comment. The boat backed into the dock, and the crewmember called out our names.



On the Boat: We were given a tour of the "Grand I" 44 foot Sea Ray Yacht, shown the flowers, Champagne, and even the bedrooms. RRBB still didn't realize what was going on. We went up to the bow (Front of the boat) and sat. She thought we had a few more stops to make for additional passengers. We talked a bit as the boat went around the Seven Seas Lagoon. She commented that there was a beautifully romantic full moon; I was quick to take credit for it. She asked me if we were the only ones on this Cruise, I responded to her by suggesting one of my ex-classmates, who works at Walt Disney World must have arranged it when I complained to him. I told her we really needed to thank him. I asked her if she wanted to videotape the fireworks, she agreed.



The Question: I waited till the fireworks started, looked at her and told her that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, then I asked her to marry me. She sat there, I said a few more little things to her, and after about five minutes she asked me if I wanted her answer. I said "Of Course." She said "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!"



Afterwards: We drank a special toast to our engagement of "Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvée" Champagne, and she was presented with a glass slipper to commemorate our engagement. The crew commented that she didn't drop the camera, and that I held out till the fireworks started. Timing is, after all, everything



Postscript: The next evening I saw a neat lighted sign that I wanted as a souvenir. Before the Epcot Fireworks, I left her for a few moments. She reprogrammed the sign to say "HE PROPOSED!" Needless to say, she is still showing off the ring...

We had planned on the Magic Kingdom for the afternoon on Saturday (Jan 15th, 2005) so we figured we could park at our hotel (Shades of Green) and walk over to the Polynesian. We’d never been There before either…it was very cute. As we were walking in we passed a bride getting in to her limo …on her way to the Wedding Pavilion! So we get on the monorail and as we pass the pavilion my nose is to the glass as always. When we stopped in front of the Grand Floridian (my favorite…looking…hotel) I said that was the closest I had ever been to it. Johnny looked at me and asked if I’d like to hop off the monorail and walk around for a little while. I certainly did. It is Amazing. So gorgeous!! I really, really, Really want to stay there now! After we looked around inside for a bit we decided to walk along the beach and check out the pavilion. We stood there and chatted and then I took some pics.

As I put my camera back in my purse John stands in front of me and starts talking. I, of course, can’t remember most of what he said, but he started with, “Through magic and misery (har har), through something and something. …we’ve had a short journey so far, but there is a long one in front of us… …” I wish I could remember more. Then he said, “Alexis Noelle, will you marry me?” and he pulled out the ring! It is just stunning! I cried , but it was windy so it whipped my tears from me! He actually asked me twice. I was so surprised he asked me there. I mean, I was hoping he would ask me Somewhere at Disney, I just had no clue where. Of course, I said YES!!

Blimey - your proposals are so well thought out and romantic - my DH2B asked me at home one Friday night after an episode of Eastenders - an english soap opera! He came straight out with the will you marry me - and I thought he was joking so didn't answer for a while - he got worried I didn't want to, but like I say I though it was a prank!

Oh, I love the three stories that have been posted so far. Each of them was special and unique. I'll add my story to them (it's also mentioned in my FTW VR trip report (click here)):

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Janet and a boy named Rick. They met on Halloween almost 22 years ago. The two were introduced by Marcia, Janet’s best friend from high school. Janet had gone to visit Marcia at college. For months she had been hearing about two guys named Rick and Mark. According to Marcia, the two guys were roommates and they had become her newest best friends. Janet was anxious to meet them both. Any friend of Marcia’s was a friend of Janet’s.

When Janet finally met Rick and Mark, she immediately liked them. They were as nice and as funny as Marcia had said they would be. The four of them decided to attend a few Halloween parties together that night. Marcia dressed as Little Bo Peep, Mark dressed as a German Boy, Janet dressed as a Chinese Girl, and Rick dressed as a Genie – curly-toed shoes and all. Everyone looked adorable as they hit college party after college party. As the night wore on, their fun grew. And then it happened. Right there in the middle of Janet’s rather ordinary life, her fairy tale began – Rick proposed marriage to her.

Now let’s stop right here. You read that right – on the day that Rick and Janet first met, Rick proposed marriage. Who in their right mind would ever believe a cockamamy story like that? Take it from me, Janet had a hard time believing it herself and she lived through the experience. But I can assure you, the story is 100% true. And so Janet’s fairy tale begins…

Here is our story, hope everyone enjoys. We love to hear how magical everyone elses went since we can relate to the joy.

HOW IT HAPPENED

I guess for starters I should set the scene. We went to Walt Disney World in Orlando, May 16-23, 2004. I think I really surprised her with the engagement. She claims to not have had a clue, but she later admitted that she did think it was the perfect opportunity for me. I was nervous the whole morning before we went to the park, and she couldn't understand why. I was very nervous, not because I was worried what the answer would be, but because I didn't want to mess it up. I wanted it to be perfect!! I had rehearsed the whole thing many times with our dog Rusty listening to me (hahaha). He never ran away, he just sat there and cocked his head from side to side every time, so I figured it had to be an ok speech!! I"ll admit I was having a hard time getting started and things were not going as I planned. I had to improvise and I asked Kat if I could give her something. She looked at me weird and said "sure I guess." I reached in my pocket and pulled out the ring and she started flapping her hands and crying. I asked her to marry me and without hesitation she said "YES!!" A few hours later as we were leaving the Magic Kingdom for lunch a woman came up to us out of the blue and asked if we had just gotten engaged. A little taken off guard by this we said "yes." She told us she had taken a photo of the "moment" and if we wanted a copy she would mail it to us. She sent us the picture a week later and it was perfect...it is me putting the ring on Katharine's finger. It was great how she had captured that special moment. What Katharine didn't know was that the whole trip was planned just so I could propose to her in front of Cinderella's Castle. I could not think of a more magical place to show my ultimate display of affection, than right there. It is a memory that will last a lifetime, just as our love will as well. I Love You Katharine!!!

Here's my story. It was on May 4th, 2005:

My fiance proposed this past May during Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. We went to dinner to Planet Hollywood (my choice) and I noticed that he wasn't talking too much and was eating slow, but he just told me he wasn't feeling well, so I thought nothing of it.
After that, we headed to Magic Kingdom and we had found a great spot to watch the fireworks and had just settled in when a little girl came running over and threw up on the grass beside me! After we high-tailed it out of there, we found a great spot on the bridge to the right of the castle near Tommorrow Land where there had previously been no spots. As the lights went off, he asked me to trust him and not ask any questions (which is hard for me sometimes!) and to hand him my purse, turn to face the water and close my eyes. By that time I had started to clue into what was happening and starting shaking. I was so scared that he was going to put the ring in my hand and I would drop it in the water! Then he put a penny in my hand and told me to wish for the one thing that I really wanted him to do that week, but I never thought he would, throw it in the water and then turn around. I turned around just as the music started and the first fireworks went off, he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so happy and shocked that I actually forgot about the ring and was trying to get him to stand up so I could kiss him. Then I gave him the wrong hand at first! Apparently tons of people started clapping, but I was just too happy to notice. After that we just hugged and enjoyed the fireworks together and got a lot of congratulations after the fireworks were done. He said that this was exactly what he wanted, to make my wish come true during Wishes and give me a princess cut diamond in front of Cinderella's Castle!
My fiance later told me that he wasn't nervous I would say no, but he was nervous about getting the ring box from his camera case to his pocket and then if everything would go smoothly. My parents knew that he was probably proposing that night, so we decided to call them the next night. I was really mean to my mom and didn't say anything about the being engaged, just talked about the weather and rides until I was sure I had her believing that something must have happened to make Matt wait until another night. So just as she seemed to give up hope, I said, "I think there was something else I was going to tell you.... Oh yeah, I'm engaged!" She was like "I knew it! I knew he would have done it last night almost no matter what. Tell me all about it!" It was great!

Hello everyone! I have been searching for a Wedding Dress that is inspired by Ariel's, and google sent me here. I stopped to read everyone’s stories, and I wanted to share my own as well . . .
Last January, my boyfriend and I decided to spend our spring break together in Florida so that I could meet his dad. Luckily, his dad lives near Orlando so we got a seven day pass to Disney World. We had been dating for about a year and a half, and he had been hinting about popping the question but had told me about a month before the trip that he wouldn't be able to ask until at least midsummer because he wasn't able to save up for the ring. He is a very very silly boy because I would have said yes without ever getting a ring (even though it is quite pretty now that I have it ^_^). Anyway, it was snowing in Chicago on the day I left. When I walked out of the Orlando airport, I felt like I was entering a completely different world. I had never seen real palm trees before and the weather was . . . hot. I loved it. It was the perfect beginning to a truly magical week.
John had surprised me months earlier with a reservation to eat dinner at Cinderella Castle. I was so excited that I couldn't stop talking about it, dreaming about it, and I had picked out the perfect outfit to wear. I had insisted that we dress up. You just can’t go to the castle in shorts, right? The first day that we were in Disney we went to Epcot center. I was like a little kid bouncing around, especially when I saw Cinderella Castle from the monorail. Did I mention that I'd never been to Disney before? Epcot was lots of fun, but I couldn't wait to get to the castle.
The next day, we went to the Magic Kingdom. It was amazing to say the least. I got my picture taken with Stitch, AND I got my trademark stitch hat . It was lovely, yadda yadda yadda, but finally it was time to go to the castle. I had waited so long, staring at the castle from afar, that when we were admitted into the anteroom only to see about twenty families in shorts . . . I was a little disappointed. I didn’t let on though, because I was still enamored with the suit of armor and thrones. John seemed a little put out about it too, but he was still smiling. He managed to scoop up one of the smaller thrones for me, and he sat next to me on a bench. We decided to wait to take pictures until the waiting room cleared out a bit. He kept an eye out and when the throne was available he led me by the arm to it, sat me down, and got down on one knee. I can’t really remember what he said, but I know he told me how much he loved me and that I was his princess. He pulled a sparkling tiara out of his bag and placed it on my head. Then, to my surprise, he took out a shining glass slipper and slid it on my foot . He sat next to me on the throne and I was completely speechless. I’ll be honest and say that the thought that he hadn’t proposed crossed my mind, but I was thinking that he might have done all of this to make up for the fact that he wasn’t going to propose yet. A little girl walked by and asked her mother if I was a real princess. I certainly felt like one thanks to my prince.
Once our name was called we walked upstairs to the restaurant. To my amazement, John had arranged it so that we got the best seat in the place (that must have been what he needed to talk to Snow White about). We sat next to the beautiful bay windows , in the center of the restaurant. The area below had already been cleared out in preparation for the fireworks, and we had a perfect view of the park. It was absolutely beautiful. John had also arranged a three-course meal of anything we wanted so we were able to pick out everything right then (except for dessert ^_^). While we were eating dinner the fireworks show began. I felt like it was our own private show. We couldn’t see another soul in front of us, and it was just . . so . . perfect. After an amazing dinner of soup and steak and I can’t even remember what else John mentioned that we should probably order desert and take it home with us since we were both so full. I kinda looked at him funny, but said we could think about it ^^. A few minutes later the waitress (Lady Krisz) came to our table with a glass shoe on a porcelain dish. It took me a minute to realize what was happening… John got on one knee and this time he asked me to marry him . I of course yelled yes , and John said later I answered before he was done asking the questions! Lady Krisz grabbed our camera (which of course just happened to be on the edge of the table) and took photos of us. John was so nervous that he almost forgot to put the ring on my finger. The ring was nestled in the glass shoe with a white rosebud and surrounded by rose petals. It was wonderful. I was absolutely shocked! We had an alcohol-free Champaign toast , and everyone was so nice. I’ve never been so happy in my entire life. We were served chocolate slippers with chocolate mouse and raspberries for dessert and "Will you marry me?" was written in chocolate on my plate. We received a certificate and a special pin with Mickey proposing to Minnie. We also were given “Cinderella’s Royal Table” Champaign glasses. As we were leaving, we shared a dance in the now empty anteroom and took our first step into our "happily ever after" together.

We were vacationing in WDW in June 2002. DH and I were 24 at the time and had been together for almost 4 years so though we had talked about marriage, I had no clue. He really got me!!
We had dinner reservations at the California Grill. He went crazy to get us the greatest seat to watch the fireworks. I had no clue b/c he went through the same trouble on our trip 2 years prior so this was not odd for him. We had the best table and what a view. So the fireworks start and music is playing...everything is wonderful. All of the sudden he comes around to my side of the table and gets down on one knee. My face must have been like oh my god, is he about to propose? He said so many wonderful things to me and proposed. The waiters and bartenders were in on it, and they were cheering and clapping. People seated near us were crying along with us. We were just so in the moment-it was amazing. And being in WDW made it that much better. The maitre'd found some CG postcards and a velvet wine case with the name of the restaurant and year printed on it as a memento. We couldnt even finish our food we were so excited!
On that note, the next day we went to MK. The weather called for rain but we went anyway. Except we forgot our ponchos at the resort. After a few hours at MK of drizzling, it started to pour so we decided to head back to the resort and hang out. I said to my new fiance, this sucks, it keeps raining on our trip, and whine whine whine. All the other guests were running underneath the awnings of main street. The street was empty. My amazing husband picked me up and carried me onto Main Street in the pouring rain and twirled me around telling me no matter what happens, he loves me so much. We ended up stayin in the park and having a blast in the rain at MK! It was such a great trip. We couldn't resist WDW for part of our honeymoon last May 2004.
Time flies....we are a week away from our 1st wedding anniversary!

I was completely surprised when they brought out the slipper I keep telling him we should do it again every year, and he can propose every time but he isn't biting

A little background: Tom is my brother's best friend for 8 years. We always did the teenage flirting, ect. We also had those little crushes on each other. Sadly, the timing was always off. He was either with someone or vice versa. Anyway, he had asked Jason for his permission to date me a few times(how noble of him!) and Jason always said 'no.' Well, it was Thanksgiving, 2002 that Tom asked one last time and Jason said yes as he wanted to see us both happy.

The proposal: It was March 17(St. Patty's Day), 2004. I was sleeping because I had a rough day at work and a migraine to boot. Tom went out shopping for 'car parts' for a few hours. He came home, woke me up at 9pm all in a frazzle. He started speaking rapidly about how he's been searching for the perfect ring for six months. He said he just can't find one and can't take it anymore. It was right then and there, with me half awake and half asleep that he proposed to me without a ring. I immediately said 'yes.' We began looking, together, for the perfect engagment ring and found one two weeks later.

It's been a very blissful engagment and I cannot wait to marry him on September 10, 2005

My "now" husband Ryan threw me a surprise 30th birthday party May 2003. I still can’t believe I had no clue, I know everything! At the party, when it came time to open the presents, he made me sit up on the top part of the deck while everyone else was down lower in front of me...felt like an idiot! I got through all of the gifts and got up to thank everyone and I noticed that where Ryan had been standing was empty. He was nowhere to be found. All of the sudden his best friend Jim, starts yelling that I missed a gift, that there was one more. I am looking around at all the boxes and wrapping paper and thinking, no way! I got it all. Then Ryan appears in the middle of the crowd and starts to walk toward me as he is calling everyone’s attention. I never saw the box in his hand, it was the tear in his eye that tipped me off. He announced that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and a bunch of other stuff that is a huge blur now, got down on his knee and proposed. I just lost it and sobbed the whole time, this is what everyone else tells me and what I saw on the video tape of it! He then surprised me with a trip to Disney the next weekend, and we met with our SM, as he had already made the appointment for our Fairy Tale Wedding Session. Too cute! It was the greatest day of my life at that point, and our wedding day has totally topped it!
