How did you save money today?

I did my weekly "shop for nearly free" run.I picked up a lot of stuff that was either free after coupons, or else only a few pennies each. All stuff that we normally use with just a couple of treats thrown in there because the boys are coming home for spring break on Saturday!

Returned two unopened packages of diapers that I don't need, since my son finally decided to potty train. $17.98 back in store credit! Bummer tho I have 3 opened packs of diaper with only a few missing! Why oh why was I so lazy that I opened a new pack before checking to see that the other one was empty :(

Just got back from my favorite grocery store - with coupons, sales, and store coupons, they actually owed me 58 cents, bought dh a candy bar (half off) then owed $.08. Love those kind shopping trips! :)

:worship:

Even with the best coupon match-ups, I have never left a store with them owing me money (they don't allow overages around here). I'm very impressed. What did you buy, aside from the candy bar?

don't flame me for having credit card balances - husband was without job and we were on COBRA insurance until the new insurance kicked in.... but I applied for the new Chase Slate card with 0% interest and no fee for balance transfers and plan to get rid of that debt as quickly as possible.

Also got DS scholarship in the mail today - full tuition paid :cheer2:

Congratulations to your son! Fully-paid tuition is a BIG DEAL! Best of luck to him!

I called Disney yesterday to add a day to our resort stay. I was anticpating owing an additional night, but by changing our resort view, I was able to pay for that night with what I had paid. (Switched from pool view to garden view at POR) She also said that I would have a refund of $45 sent back to me. :cool1: So I added a night and made money. :thumbsup2

A cast member friend called Disney and applied her friends and family 40% discount to our Fort Wilderness stay. $276 coming back to us!

That's awesome on the scholarship!!

I like this thread....:thumbsup2 let's see...errands today, I had $10 kohls cash expiring (ordered some clearance items) and while I hate these things, added it to list.... so.....stopped at Kohls,b/c I need a set of sheets (I only had one) and was looking for a sale+that coupon, but the cheapest set was 79.00:sad::crazy2: I don't think so...and no sales...except buy one get one for 1/2....(NO)
so I used the coupon and got 75.00 worth of cute jewelry off the clearance rack for 1.00 oop:cool1:
then I stopped at the consignment store, and dropped a few purses to consign, and found a BRAND new set of sheets there NIP for 20.00:cool1: and I had 24.00 in my account...so I got my sheets+jewelry+4.00 in my pocket:cool1: total oop for all this shopping fun so far was -3.00:cool1:

I added my mom to my cell phone plan today and got her a free phone plus the montly bill is less than she was paying on her own. But the best part was I was chatting with the sales associate while the phone was being set up and she was able to find the company I worked for. I now have an 11% discount on my monthly bill.

I just happened to go in the supermarket where I shop right after they had put out the marked-down meat. I got $75 worth of London Broil, round steak and roasts for $33. I was thinking maybe I ought to get a few more roasts but when I turned around, they were gone! Later, I went over to another market closer to my house because I'd forgotten an item I needed, and they had London Broil buy-one-get-one-free (bringing the price to $2.50/lb) so I bought 4 of those.

Spent $2.82 at the grocery store but got $2 back on the ibotta app for it, did a $7 survey of the make up aisle on the Field Agent app and met someone in the parking lot to sell a shirt for $5. Why can't every trip to the grocery be like that?!?

I agree! They should all be that way!

Sell them! Find a FB yard sale group, a local "moms" group, Craigs listor even just a basic bulletin board. If that doesn't work, donate them to a local crisis pregnancy center. It would be appreciated and it would be a tax deduction.

I did a "shop for nearly free" day recently here, but I certainly don't do it weekly! Good for you!

Congrats to DS on the scholarship and good for you to get rid of that debt!

I stayed home... And did not do any online shopping.

Nothing better than a longer trip to Disney!

Wowza! Great day!

I went to Walmart and bought ONLY the things I had coupons for - dawn dish liquid and turkey from the deli.

Good for you!

*****************

Well "thrifty friends".... I've been wanting to come on here and shre some of my money-saving days lately, but I've been super busy!

Last week I took my Thursday and made it a thrifty day. First thing I met a woman and bought a brand new ink cartrige for my printer for $5 (retails for $15.99).... not sure why she didn't return it. Also that day had a few other FB yard sale "meets" and I made $20 selling stuff from around the house (outgrown clothes and unused craft items). I also met a woman so that I could BUY a coat (I've been wanting a long coat for recess duty and other cold days so I can wear skirts/dresses). The coat was BNWT from Talbots with a retail price tag of $228 (still on the Talbots hanger and in the hanging bag!!).... and it fit perfectly and the woman was only asking $35!!!!! Winner-winner-chicken-dinner!!

I also took a handful of high value coupons to Target and (by combining a WW coupon and a Target coupon I got with my 5% Pharmacy rewards mailer AND the Target "buy 5 get one free" deal) I was able to get 6 Smart Ones frozen meals (not something I normally buy, but couldn't pass up the deal) for $3.70 (including the 5 cents of for bringing my own bag).

While there I also bought some Atkins bars for DH using a mfg coupon. They also had a "buy 4 get a $5 gift card" deal going on, so I used the gift card to make my NEXT purchase of misc. grocery items totaling $27.95 that came to $18.81 after coupons and then down to $13.81 after using the $5 gift card.

I have never been one of those "got it for free" kind of couponers, so this is a HUGE deal for me!

Then I headed to the bread store where I got a package of mini cinnamon raisin bagels, two loaves of whole wheat sandwich bread, and a 16 pack of whole wheat Sandwich Thins for $8.76. Just wish they still had their punch card promo going on.

I also hit 3 of my favorite thrift stores that day, but spent VERY LITTLE money (bought just a few items at each totally under $20 in all for a few articles of clothing and a brand new piece of Tupperware). Even the store that was having a 50% off day didn't have much that I felt that I HAD to have.

Hit Staples that day as well to do some returns (mostly with receipts, one thing without) and discovered a rebate slip in my wallet that I forgot to fill out, so I will be doing that today and sending it in before it is too late. Also used my "soon to expire" Staples rewards to buy ink for my printer and DD's printer. Also had a balance on a Staples card for returning something without a receipt, so I was able to use that up.

Over the weekend at DS's FIRST robotics tournament I packed lunch, drinks, and snacks for the three of us for both days. I was able to stick with the packed foods but DH and DS spent some cash on sodas and pizza.... oh well. Did treat DS to a take-out pizza on our way home Saturday night (DH was at an informal class reunion), but we brought it home and made our own drinks and skipped the chips.

Sunday I headed out shopping for some interview clothes for DD and was able to MOSTLY stick with the clearance racks at Kohl's.... and then the woman in front of me at the register gave me her reuseable 15% off card!! Thanks to the stranger!

I worked a halfday on Monday (they didn't call me until 11:30 am), but will get a full day's pay....:cool1: I also worked both jobs on Tuesday and packed my own dinner for the road trip I had to take that night to DD's college. Wednesday I ate breakfast at DD's school (free for parents) and lunch was the value menu at Wendy's (chili for me, kids meal for DD)... and I waited until I was home again before having dinner that night.

I worked Thursday and Friday, packing my lunch both days (something I ALWAYS do) and met a woman to sell her some stuff from a FB yard sale on Thursday night. Thought it was going to be a $10 sale, so I was bummed to make the drive to meet her for so little, but she actually bought more so I made $20 that night. And she messaged me today that she wants to buy more so that will be another $25!!

Anyhow....WOOHOO! I feel like I've been doing pretty well saving and NOT spending (not going to stores helps a LOT! :rotfl:).

The cash I've been making by selling stuff has been going DIRECTLY into my envelope system to save for college, misc. trips, summer vacation, and emergencies. Any grocery money saved just stays in the regular checking account, but if there is any extra at the end of the month I usually siphon it off for savings.

Hope everyone else has been saving/not spending well!..............P

Heading to Disney with the extended family in June for a week. Need to come up with all the extra costs paid. Using DVC for 3 nights AKL Kidani and 4 night BWV. Want to valet park at BWV as a treat so my DH said find the money. So far laundry fairy donated 18.00 and just took all his old lottery tickets just sitting in a pile and another 27.00 found there. Need 15.00 more and we have one car on valet in case of bad weather. Also bought visa card 5.00 off 50.00. after 5.00 fee. As this is a 10% savings vs Target red card decided to buy one as they come up. Also Publix offered 10 off 50 gas card so broke grocery shopping into 2 trips of 50.00 not only did the bogo's help stock me for the trip I scored 2 gas cards put away for ride up. :rotfl2: You guys are much better than me at being creative but its a start! Once I get valet paid moving on to mouse keeping envelopes.
