How did you propose to your SO

or

how were you proposed to?

I've read a few creative, cute or funny proposal posts, and I'd love to read more! :goodvibes

Stroke of midnight, New Years Eve on the waterfront in Boston for First Night, 1992-1993, along with about a million people or so.

she said yes.

My DH was going to propose at the top of the Eiffel Tower, however he realised that his vertigo was getting the better of him, so chickened out!! He proposed the next morning in our hotel room, not quite so romantic, him in his boxer shorts! But we were in Paris!!

In the Kingston Mall Parking Lot.

He locked me out of the car and watched me throw a fit. Then he pulled the ring out and unlocked the door.

He never actually asked me though.
It was more a "there you go" type thing.

Ex-BF called me outside to look at something on the roof. He was pointing at the roof with the ring in his thumb and pointer finger. Took me awhile to see it. I was so shocked I walked away from him and went inside.

DH was always saying, "When you get married..." or "When I have a family..." or some such.

One day said, "When we are married..." Took me a minute - didn't know if was proposal or oopsie. Said, "You said 'we'." He said, "I know."

Proceeded to inform that if was proposing should have a prop. Asked me, "Prop?" Informed, "Like a ring! Do not toy with me. If you are talking about us getting married, you should be serious." Said was serious. Replied, "People who are serious get rings." Produced ring.

Would not have been happier if had flown to exotic location and proposed under waterfall. If had known that deer heads on walls were part of package, might have thought twice. ;) Kidding! Love DH more today than then. Is best husband in world. For me, anyway. :)

We were on the Rivers of America, watching the Believe! the fireworks show at Disneyland.

There was some quote in the show that said, "Think of your heart's desire."

Then hubby whispered in my ear, "My heart's desire is to spend the rest of my life with you." He got on his knee and said, "Will you marry me?"

I said yes. ;)

My brother in law(BIL) has all the romance in the family, here is his story: It even made the front page of the local paper.

BIL was a bartender in a port city on the East Coast. His girl worked on an island or something where she had large windows that looked out onto the water.

BIL had a group of guys come into the bar that were the crew of a Dutch Freighter, he talked them into hanging an 80 foot long "will you marry me?" sign on the side of the ship so that when they left port she would be able to see it from her office.

At the time the vessel was scheduled to leave port, he went to her office dressed in a tux, complete with the roses and the ring, knew when she would be able to see the sign, had someone show her the window so she could see it, snuck in and when she turned around her was right behind her on his knee!

She said yes (how could she not?)

His biggest worry was that due to the language barrier, they would hang it upside down! They didn't, it was perfect!

I presented DW with a bound report on the cost/benefit analysis of marrying me along with a ring and a sign-off sheet at the back of the packet. I'm not sure what did it (the analysis or the rock) but that was 26 years ago. :)

I never actually proposed to DW.

We were taking a walk on Christmas afternoon (we had been together for 6 months). She started talking about our future, and where we were headed. I confessed that I had planned on asking her to move in with me when she moved to my city (it was a long distance relationship).

She said no, she wouldn't move it unless we were at least engaged.

I said, "We're not ready for that."

She said, "I think we are."

Five minutes of silence passed. I'm not sure what I thought. Finally, I said, "Okay, I guess we are."

The rest is history.

My DH (then boyfriend) told me over the course of the week that he had something really important to talk to me about. He sounded so serious about it, which was so unlike him because he's always a very cheerful person, that I was certain he was going to break up with me. (we hadn't been dating very long, thus why I was thinking break up instead of marriage :rotfl: )

Turns out it was just because he was terrified of proposing to me in case I said no. And it's a good thing he was proposing instead of breaking up with me because the "big talk" happened to be on my birthday. :rotfl2:

This wasn't me, but a few weeks ago down at the beach, there was an banner plane that came by, and said" Donna J...I love you will you marry me? Steve" Well the entire beach was cheering and it turns out they were sitting just over from us, so we saw the celebration. OMG, there had to be about 30 relatives there and the champagne just flowed. It was so sweet and I went over to congratulate them, and they were just the cutest couple. The plane circled and came back a few times.

As for my own, it was very typical and also very sweet. No planes, but I got my prince. :cloud9:

My DH and I had gone on a weekend trip to Victoria BC. We had a reservation at the Empress for dinner and he was going to propose there. But the wait staff took his coat and the ring was in the pocket. So afterwards we were walking along the pier and he decided to have us go on a carriage ride. He choose the quiet tour of the harbor and not the more open and lit tour. But the driver was very chatty and my DH is to polite so instead we talked with the driver. After that we walked along the pier again back to our hotel room. We had a great room with a view of the empress and the harbor so we went out on the balcony. My DH starts to propose and the neighbors come out on their balcony and start smoking. By this time I knew what was going on and he didnt want to sit in the smoke, so we went into our suite and he finished his proposal. I was so excieted I almost lost the ring behind the couch as it was too big for me. I wore it anyway though.

He had enough chances to get out of it so now he is in it for life.

In a car at a stop sign.

DH always kids that if I had said no, he'd have pushed me out of the car and drove away!!!! ;)

When DH was in the military stationed about 9 hours away. He called me one day to tell me he went ring shopping. He told me he bought one for me if I was interested. Then he showed up on my doorstep the next morning. He drove through the night to ask me in person.

I took DH to Montreal for a surprise birthday trip but I ended up being the one who got surprised. He proposed on top of Mt. Royale (sp) in the snow on 4/6/01, which was his bday. I thought he was getting the snow our out of my boot and looked down and there he was with the ring. I think he had to carry me back down!

He brought the ring onto the plane in our carryon bag- the security agent gave us a look but he distracted me and I didn't think anything of it. :goodvibes

Well, I love Cherished Teddies and there was a figurine made of a couple getting engaged.

He saw that in a store and bought it. He then cut space into the styrofoam for the ring. On Christmas night, with his family there (my dad couldn't make it due to weather), he handed me the present to open. When I opened it and saw the ring with the teddy bears getting engaged, he then got on one knee and asked me to marry him. While crying my happiness, I accepted.

Six months to the date after proposing, he broke up with me.

On a cruise. At dinner, DH left the table to go to the "men's room". After about 15 minutes, an announcement came on that said for me to report to the purser's desk. I proceeded to the desk, where I was told to meet DH on the top deck. He later said that while he was standing there waiting for me, the sky was full of clouds, covering the full moon. He was wondering if this was the right time or not when the clouds opened and the moon shined through (his words, not mine),when he knew that this was the right time and person :goodvibes At that time, i walked out and the rest is history. I really love my hubby :goodvibes

DH proposed at Victoria and Albert's. He surprised me first by switching our hotel reservations from Wilderness Lodge to Polynesian lagoon view concierge (my absolute favorite) and then surprised me by taking me to Victoria and Albert's for dinner. He got my mom to give him my dress, shoes, etc and hid it in his suitcase. Right before dessert our 'Victoria' came over with a covered silver platter. I thought it was my dessert. When she lifted the dome, there was a glass slipper surrounded by rose petals with my ring inside. DH got down on one knee and proposed. :cloud9: Then my actual dessert came, but I was too excited to actually taste anything. When we got back to our room the bed was covered in rose petals and there were Disney bath products, a Cinderella's slipper pillow and a bottle of Inniskillan ice wine. Very romantic! :goodvibes
