how did you plan your time in Cozumel?

Thinking it may be an idea to go mini-golfing, back to ship for dinner (we have early) and then back to Carlos n Charlies (leaving kids in the Lab). How does that idea sound? Would it work?

Buckaroo's Dad: I think what you mean is that if there is only one activity, it takes both first and last place. I didn't want anyone to misunderstand you to mean that minigolf was not a good choice. Please correct me if I've misunderstood.

As a matter of fact, my son and I are looking forward to a round of minigolf while in Cozumel this August. DM will probably sit nearby in the shade and sip a glass of wine or lemonade or coke or pepsi...

I've always enjoyed your witty short responses, but it's obvious you're not a scuba diver. Cozumel sits right next to the Palancar Reef, which, arguably, is one of the best drift diving location on earth. To say mini-golf is the only attraction at Cozumel is a great endorsement for Sally, but all a great error...

We did go to sally's and had fun BUT the highlight for me was Diamonds International and the birthday babble (1 caret diamond band) DH let me pick out. DS loved the artisans and purchased two hand carved masks. So there is quite an assortment of things to do!

Boy people keep misreading this post :/

First, no offense to Sally, it's probably a great minigolf course, but I'm not going to spend the kind of money to take a cruise and make my one and only thing to do in Cozumel to play minigolf. I have one of the best and oldest in N Illinois about 6 blocks away from me. Can walk over and play a round wherver I want to. Now if there's time after really enjoying the tour and taking in the sights, cool, might do a round, but it certainly is not a major goal of ours while there.

Buckaroo's comments most of the time are tongue in cheek and honestly I thought nothing of the original one he made, and in spirit, understood it, don't picture Cozumel as the minigolf capitol of the world.

I HAVE been there and it was ok but certainly not the highlight of my cruise.,,. not even the highlight of my day in Cozumel. Frankly I am getting a bit concerned that people are being misled via this board that Cozumel Mini golf is anything better than Pirates Cove. yes there are cool banana trees and yes you can have drinks delivered to your hole but it IS in a crappy neighborhood and if you spend $4,000 on a cruise and you think this will be the highlight you were be sorely dissapointed.

I certainly don't want to be mugged on my way there! My friend was at Playa for her daughter's wedding. She said that they took a day to visit Cozumel and was very sorry that they did. She advised me to go over to Playa since it was safer and cleaner.

Sorry to be non-PC here, but once you've been to one city in Mexico, you've basically been to all of them.

You walk down the street and people are busy trying to get you to come into their shops with offers of 99% off and whatever. Yawn...... Frankly I get tired of that pretty quickly. I can get this type of stuff a lot easier with a quick trip to Nogales and since it's within driving distance, I don't need to spend lots of money on a cruise.

We had a very tight budget on this cruise and did not have the luxury of doing overpriced excursions or spending money on diamonds or other baubles.

We read about the mini-golf on the board here and we were not disappointed. If our expectations were too low for the rest of you, you'll just have to deal with it. We had fun on a budget, and for a short period of time managed to avoid the harrasement on the streets to purchase junk we didn't need or want.

I sincerely apologize if my expectations are too low for the rest of you, but those are the expectations I had and they were well met. Anytime I can have fun with my kids I consider it to be a great time.

By the way, I didn't think the neighborhood was all that bad and seemed pretty much the same as the rest of the area near the port. If people are worried about getting mugged, I'd suggest that you'd do a lot better to avoid some of the shop-keepers around the port. But, clearly my expectations are too low for some of you.

I understand the sentiment, but don't really think anything was said to undermine your opinions. Heck, some people didn't even comprehend my posts on this thread but that's part of the treasure buried within our society - a group of diverse individuals willing to share without judgment. Sometimes, perhaps, we share a bit too, how shall I say, emphatically.

I'll let you (and everyone else) know of my opinion about the minigolf after we return from our cruise. I'm going because I want to - after, as many Disers are aware who have read my earlier postings, the ATV adventure with Wild Tours!

One of the main reasons we moved to Cozumel is the extremely low crime rate. It was explained to us that the reason for this was simply that Cozumel is an island. There are very few exits and they are easily patrolled. This is a great deterrent to crime and criminals. I can walk the streets of Cozumel in any neighborhood at 2am by myself. I am a 44 year old woman, 5 feet tall, 95 pounds and not at all bad looking. Never in my life have I felt so safe.

As far as Playa, residents of both Cozumel and Playa would all agree that Cozumel is the safer of the two. I am not discounting what your friend said. I'm just saying she is mistaken. Cozumel is much safer than Playa and will be the safest port of your cruise.

The minigolf is located 3 blocks from the waterfront, right downtown. The first two blocks are shops and restaurants, the third is home to a local clothing store, a bakery, an ice cream parlor, a Brazilian bikini store, a dentist's office, a cafe run by an Austrian pastry chef and pharmacies at each end. In the five years since we built the minigolf, no one has ever described our neighborhood as "crappy".

thanks guys - Ive been to both Key West & Cozumel while on a cruise w/MIL Dec 01. DH & DS have never been and Id like them to get off the ship to take a look around. Neither of them are shoppers (unless yugio cards). We are snorkeling on Grand Cayman. And yes it is definately one of the least expensive excursions (we're signing up for a tournament) a family of 3 can have fun doing together. Sally, we're looking forward to meeting you.

We are all in agreement that we will enjoy our cruises our own way - and within our own budget.

BD was right in his posting because we are a diverse group and have different financial abilities.

There is nothing wrong with buying diamonds and "baubles" and there is nothing wrong with avoiding excursions - but those of our group who can afford these items and excursions shouldn't be considered "better" than those who can't.

Each one has an opinion about this tropic and of course, being both a Cozumel resident and the owner of the establishment, Sally has her own viewpoint. I think Ann was just letting us know what to expect since many of the cruisers have never been afforded the travel opportunities that some have.

As a USAF veteran, I am very familiar with third world countries, poverty and the frequency of crime (pickpockets, etc.) in those areas where every meal is based on what is sold or stolen that day. I am not condoning crime but I understand that a little alertness goes a long, long way.

It doesn't matter where we live in the USA or where we have been, we all have opinions and the right to express them.
