Hi everyone! :flower3:

I'm usually a lurker around here...but I'm finally starting to plan...at least a little bit! DBF and I are planning on being engaged in August, and getting married some time next year. :lmao: I've been reading planning journals and trip reports (AMAZING! :lovestruc ) but my one question for all of you is...how did you choose your wedding colors? Did your location inspire you, or a favorite picture or memory, or did you just like them? :rotfl: Did you have an inspiration board (is that what they're called)? My problem now is I have a million ideas...

Tropical with bright blues and pinks (I love the beach!)

1950s red/white/black vintage look

Ideally I'd love to combine red/white/black and a bright blue, but I feel like it would be the 4th of july at my wedding...know what I mean? Anyways, if you are willing to share (especially pictures that you think really captured your ideas of colors for your wedding) I'd appreciate it! Thanks! :yay:

I knew I wanted purple and silver because I thought the combo was really pretty, and not too girly. Also, I originally wanted more blues, but flower combinations are easier with purples, and my mom had blue in her wedding, and I didn't like the colors too much in her photos (even though they were from 29 years ago). I had also considered black and white to go with a Mickey theme, but for a spring wedding at a vinyard, I couldn't picture it.
However, finding what shade of purple I wanted (there are way too many shades) did not happen until my cousins picked their bridesmaid dresses and we picked the color from that. We ended up with mulberry (also known as orchid or royal purple, depending on what vendor you talk to!).

Good Luck! I recommend looking at many photos of weddings in magazines and online and keeping photos of what you like most. That will help you narrow in what you really want. Also, just sit back and try to picture what your wedding will look like.

Well, I had basically decided between a tiffany blue and brown, a champagne, or celedon green with white and pink accents. The best advice that I can give you is to pick the dress that you love, and then pick a color that you like that the dress comes in. It will save you alot of time, and headaches. I also took into consideration what would compliment the wedding pavilion.

the way we went about picking our colors was we thought of something that meant a lot to both of us. We both choose our fraternities as what we really love. My frat. colors are red and white, his frat. colors are red, black, and gold. So we put the colors together and got our colors. We never put 2 and 2 together and realize that our colors are mickey colors until a few weeks ago. I guess it goes with our theme of Disney.

thanks everyone! :goodvibes

cutedisneygirly....i love the advice to sit back and think of what your wedding will look like. that helped a great deal!

keira- some good advice, thanks! i love color so much, i wasn't even considering the neutrals...white vs. ivory vs. champagne, etc! definitely something to consider! :rotfl:

littleangie- i love the fabric swatches, such rich colors! can i ask where you got them? your colors sort of go along with the vintage 1950s type theme that i love...and garnet/gold were our school colors, so i'm leaning toward something similar, possibly! so fun! :yay:

thanks, everyone!

I originally wanted pink, but was quickly informed that all the men in the wedding would be absent from the ceremony if it was to be pink. :lmao:

So I kept thinking... a process that looks kinda like this

:) :rotfl: :guilty: :headache: :upsidedow    :sad2: :scared:

And decided on using Beauty and the Beast colors (yellow and blue) for our wedding. I quickly became cognizant that they were also my school colors. Hence, I decided on pale yellow and hydrangea blue - and also made it a New Englandy/Cape Cod wedding. :thumbsup2

I picked turquoise and orange because they are two of my favorite colors, had a vaguely Moroccan feel to go with our vaguely Moroccan theme, and had never ever been used before as wedding colors EVER in the history of weddings. Ever. (I am kidding, of course, because I said this in a magazine article about our wedding and then they ran a wedding with turquoise and orange on the NEXT PAGE!!! :rotfl: )

There are lots of neat color theories to explore, but one of them says that it's good to have a bright color, a mid-tone, and a neutral. (I did not do this, however, because my M.O. is "bright"!) And I always think three is good because you can have two main colors and an accent color (in our case, bright pink - but never officially b/c pink is apparently girly.... :lmao: ).

Anyway, if you're as nuts about color as I am, pick the ones that make you happy! :thumbsup2

We had already chosen our location... Sunset Pointe and knew we wanted a casual tropical feel. With that in mind I just started looking at tons of wedding pics and really like fuschia and orange. DF said there needed to be atleast one "manly" color... so it was back to the drawing board. Since I'm an Escape bride I started looking at the bouquet options and decided on the tropical bouquet (obvious based on my theme:lmao:). Anyways I decided I love the green cymbidium orchids in the bouquet and would use a fresh green as my other (more "manly" color.) So our 2 main colors are fuschia and green but I plan to still have splashes of orange and maybe a bit of bright tropical blue. Hmmm... definately doesn't follow that bright, mid-tone, and neutral rule:rotfl: I'm not big on rules though... and it goes with what we're shooting for bright, tropical, and fun. I have lots of pics in my PJ if you're looking for some inspiration pics. Good luck!

I picked my colour as soon as I saw the photos of the orange calla lilies on the DFTW site! I loved the colour as it seemed so happy and vibrant.

Since then we've added ivory and champagne as two complimentary colours. I'm looking forward to having bright and sunny photos to look over during the winter months.

My fav color is pink, and dh's is green, and I thought ivory was lovely for a VR, so our color scheme was easy. The guys aren't wearing anything pink, however, and we're using small accents of blue and white, and yellow as well. Springy looking.

I wanted a Vintage wedding as well, but there were so many color choices for that! I ended up going with an art deco style and using an assortment of blues and copper. It ties into a ocean look since we're doing the reception in Ariel's. I went to deviantart.com and just started looking up keywords to find almost all of those images.

We had burgundy and ivory. My favorite colors are purple and red. I saw a burgundy tie before I even chose the wedding colors and thought it was the perfect combination of purple and red, so I bought it, not sure if we would use it or not. Then my MOH tried on a burgundy dress, it was gorgeous on her, and it just fell into place. The tie and the dress turned out to be the exact same color so I knew we'd use burgundy. DH wore the tie. I used ivory because my gown was ivory and the salesperson at the boutique said if I have an ivory gown one of our colors has to be ivory  I liked the idea and it stuck. We got DH's and my daddy's shirts in ivory also. The colors went together beautifully!

Carrie - I loved your turquoise and orange colors - so fresh and bright!

My DD is doing pink, green, and white. I don't know if she was inspired by a rose, but the bridesmaids dresses are a pinky peach and when I've been trying to find a dress for myself in green, she said to picture the green on the stem of the rose. I finally found a dress in that shade this past weekend. When I think about it the pink of the girls' dresses and the green in my dress does resemble a rose. She still needs to look for flowers, and with the exception of the pink roses the girls are carrying, she wants all white flowers.

After our first Mickey theme went out the window (Red, Black, White). I thought about my favorite colors (Yellow and Green) and DFi favorite colors (Blue and Black). I knew I didn't want to do Yellow and Black (Living in Atlanta, those are Georiga Tech colors), but I fell in love with Yellow roses, daisies, and everything yellow. We were having dinner with our best friend couple and they were going to use blue. We talked to them about our colors and they offered us the blue. (She knew we'd choose totally different shades)

So it was my favorite color Yellow, and his favorite color Blue. We decided the other day we're going to be tossing in a few red pieces.

I picked my colors based on the reception location The Attic. It has a vintage, shabby chic kind of vibe to it so I figured pinks and sage green would be perfect for that feel. I added a bit of silver as an accent.

I am also using our reception location as a "guide", Atlantic Dance Hall is very bright so I think (again I am not 100%, but pretty darn close) we are using Fuchsia, Coral/Orange, and Turquoise. It's going to be bright all the way, but the room is bright so we won't be doing too much with color for the decorations because at ADH they are built in! HTH

Green is my favorite color.

Normally, I love dark hunter green, but I thought that was too dark for a summer ceremony so I went with jade/grass shades

I think they came out pretty perfect if I do say so myself!! hahaha

Everyone has always told me that you should choose your colors based on your reception site so that the colors don't clash. Everything in my life is pink - its my favorite color. So that was the obvious. I figured we could do different shades of pink like a fuchsia and a lighter pink. Then I stared playing around for designs for beach towels as wedding favors. My fiance said he has no problem with the wedding being pink - but that no boy would ever use a pink beach towel again. So I am now thinking about adding a shade of bright blue. I love bright colors, they make me so happy. I def don't want anything to be neutral.

I chose pink and brown. Pink is my fave color and I liked brown with it because it felt contemporary and classy

I picked fall colors. It is my favorite time of year and we are having our VR in November. Luckily the colors will go well with the White Hall room/patio. Here is a picture of my inspiration:

I plan on chocolate brown linens, other colors will be ivory(my dress) deep red, orange, green, and yellow. I think I will stick with chocolate brown and ivory for the linens and let the rest of the colors be in the flowers.
