How did you first learn about the Disboards? (2023 edition)

I don’t remember exactly how I found The Dis, but I joined because I was planning a trip to Disney to celebrate my 50th birthday. I turned 72 two weeks ago. So, I’ve been here a while. 😊

How did you first learn about the Disboards? (2023 edition). I know a similar thread has been done in the past but it seems we have had more people joining every month for the last couple of years (which is great :-) ) and I'm curious if they have found the Dis by word of mouth or just randomly while searching for Disney information. Welcome to all newbies. :welcome:
Google search. Wanted to know more about the upcoming DVC Villas at Disneyland Hotel a year or so ago. Got some fantastic board responses from Sub Leader Don MacGregor and others and that sealed my interest in joining.

Wonderful thoughtful helpful people on this board. Wish I had joined years ago as I'm sure I would have made some better Disney choices. No regrets though.

Thanks All!

I don't know really. It was after my first trip as an adult, after I "got bit by the bug" and I guess I was just trying to learn more about all the working parts. I know that I jus tread for a while before actually joining and posting. It really is the best Disney community though.

A buddy of mine on a college sports message board told me about it. I have been a huge Disney buff for a long time as my mom was a huge fan. I have owned Disney stock since the 1980s, so I have a long relationship with Disney, so I guess it was just a matter of time before I found this board.

In early 1999 my sister and I were starting to plan our "once in a lifetime" trip to take her two daughters to Disney World. During a random internet search I came across the DIS. I have been hooked ever since. We also caught the Disney bug and many follow-up trips have been taken. We infected my brother and his family also. Now one of my nieces and one of my nephews did the college program then never came home. They are both CMs now.

Right after my first trip to WDW in 2013. We went to a DVC tour, but I wanted to research and plan our next trips. Google brought us here. I had a different username back then, but had to create a new account to be active again.

I don’t remember. I was posting on a board elsewhere that went very toxic, so I started looking around for a new Disney group to join. There were a few contenders but the DIS is where I ended up. I prefer not to post across several websites, but to pick one to focus on at a time.

I found the Dis Unplugged while browsing Youtube. I was originally looking at roller coaster videos, and a top 5 countdown from the Dis popped up as recommended. I watched a few non-podcast episodes first, then I think I found the Dreams Unlimited channel next, and now I watch weekly.

I found this community in 2015 while looking for more cool Disney-related websites. I was a longtime lurker as I was working heavily on my career but now I'm tenured and can spend more time engaging with the forums. I've always been impressed by how how nice and helpful everyone is here. Since I haven't been to WDW since 2013 (went to Universal in December 2021 but didn't go to the Disney parks, just the resorts), I have a lot to catch up on. It's a really nice community.

I don't remember if I heard about DISboards from The Unofficial Guide or if I heard about The Unofficial Guide from DISboards! I believe I read the book first and it recommended some Disney planning websites, but that was a long time ago!
I don't remember for sure either, but I suspect I also first read about the DIS in The Unofficial Guide. I joined in May, 2006.

I belonged to another Disney forum for many years. I kind of got fed up with Disney after many years and walked away from the forum. Some friends of ours were trying to get us to come over to Ft. Wilderness during Christmas to see the decorations. I searched camping at Ft Wilderness and found this forum, so I joined. The old forum didn't really have much on camping. This place had a whole section.
