Since so many of us are looking for jobs, and someone posted about monster.com. I thought We would like to know how you found your job?

Was it through an employment agency, a friends referral, walk-in, or an ad in the paper?

Hopefully this will help us to figure out the best source of looking.

Ad in the paper, but this was quite a few years ago. Many jobs aren't even in the paper anymore. The companies web site is probably better now.

My first job was through my college placement office. Since then I have gotten 2 jobs through personal referral and 3 jobs through the paper. The job I'm at now (which has been my favorite so far) was one the referrals.

Went searching on the websites of local companies and looked for the job openings there. I found one at my company, applied for it and wound up with a job there :)

When DS was in story hours I volunteered at the desk. A parttime data entry job opened while they were converting over to the computer so I did that while he was in Kindergarten. Then a fulltime circulation clerk job opened up. I just kept moving since they already knew me.

With my current job I was actually a client of the company before I went to work for them. When my last job was going away (I knew I was being layed off a couple of weeks before it happened) I checked online and found this job. Called my Sales Rep and he told me he thought I'd be perfect for it. He turned in my resume, I was layed off the next day, intereviewed 2 days later and was hired within a week.

That was 5 1/2 years ago.

I want to go to CASTING!!!!!

I ran into the guy who hired me at a gas station. I knew him from a previous job. He told me his assistant was retiring and I said, are you looking for someone? He said email your resume and the next thing I knew...I was hired.

Now he's gone and I'm still there....

I signed up with a temp agency, and it was my 3rd assigment. The 1st was for 2 months, the 2nd for 2 weeks, and then this one was indifinite. They weren't actively recruiting the position, but after a month or so I submitted my resume. I was hired without an actual interview after I was there 3 months - when my contract with the temp agency was up.

I was a volunteer tutor at my daughter's school and the teacher's sent me to the school board office to sign up to be a substitute teacher. That was 13 years ago and I am still a sub at least until I get my 1st QA level as an interpreter then I'm going downtown and applying to be an interpreter in the school system. We are very short terps.

ad, a LOOOOOONG time ago. More recently, DH saw a great ad in the Phoenix paper, but the job was listed as San Diego or Orange County, CA, and we just can't afford to live there. Then last week, into the store in which he works comes a sales rep and manager for that company, and they ask for his number, so they can get him interested in the same job. And he can do it from home, seems the last guy that had the position was on the east coast. We are crossing our fingers, it is the job he loves (had the samew position at another company before). I think that you have to explore all avenues, the paper, asking where you would like to work if they are taking applications, networking. It can be discouraging, sending out 500 or more resumes, but eventually, the right job will come to you. Also, temp agencies often place people at companies and then the person is hired permanant. And one other place to go - your states unemployment office. In AZ, that office doesn't just process claims, they work with employers to place people. They have a lot of job leads, and people don't even know they can go there if they are working. And it's free, because the tax payers fund it.

Sorry for the long answer.

I ran into a lady I used to go to church with in the grocery store one night and she asked me if I was looking for a job and it turned out that I was. So she gave her boss my number, he gave me a call and that was pretty much it. Now 5 months later I'm still enjoying what is without a doubt the best job I've ever had. :)

I found my job at the Fair Housing Council because I had to file a complaint against someone. I learned of how many people are being discriminated against so I became an acitivist then got hired on as a consultant.

That was 7 years ago now

Im not full time or even part time lol I fill in when they need me, train people, etc.

Other jobs Ive had Ive found through word of mouth, gettingto know people, just plain asking someone if they need someone like me, or through industry papers ( my job for Holland America I found in ad in the back of my brothers Kayaking magazine. I called the number listed for tours and asked if they were hiring)

I started out as a temp at my company. After three months I applied for full-time employment and got the job. I stayed in it long enough to get established in the company. I then applied within for the job I currently have ( and LOVE ) and have been here now for 5 years!

Well.... DH and I well you know....   Then nine months later I had a new job... Stay at home mom!!!! I've been employed for 5 years now!!!!

The job I have now I got through a recommendation from a friend at school. It is the BEST job I have ever had.

The job prior to that was on monster.com

My job found me.:) The job was created specifically so I could fill it.:) LOL! They asked me to send them my resume so they could custom fit the job requirements.:) The people I work with are great, and I'm very much respected and treated like a member of each of their families.:)

Someone said, "hey, they're hiring at Ayres", I said okay.

I got my last job when the girl who was there before me moved and I took over for the summer
