How did you convince your "other half"?

You all have given me a lot of ammo!

Next year we're going with 5 other adults and renting a villa. It will be our first off-site experience. If I hate it as much as I think I will, that will make the decision for us. Dh keeps saying things like "what do you mean we can't use the buses?!" And "Why can't we get into AK early like we did last year?"

I've done a good job of showing him how pampering staying on property can be. Now I just need to rent some points for a 1 bedroom and show him that tub! Plus he's a big eat in the room type of guy, which I don't mind.

The arrival of our third grandson! We realized that we had outgrown booking rooms and needed larger accomodations for our expanding family.

As long as your hubby is a "Disney Lover", and it sounds like he is, then your mission is to have him just book a tour. Cry, beg do whatever you have to do to get him to just sit down with a sales rep and hear all the information. My husband was so against hearing anything about it because it was a time share. According to him "all time shares are just scams". I finally convinced him on our last day of vacation in 2002 to just sign up for the tour and listen. As soon as he heard what they had to say he realized that DVC is unlike any other time share and we signed right then and there. He regrets not doing it sooner!!! Do whatever you have to do but just get him to listen. Good Luck!!!

I started talking dvc before we went on our cash vacation at SSR. DH didnt have any interest in dvc and thought it was all a scam

Well, once we stayed onsite....it didnt take much convincing....we left Disney as owners of SSR

No convincing necessary. He wanted to purchase just as much as I did. The only issue was 'how many points' to purchase. Also, I did all of the research and leg-work.

Ok everyone, here's my plan: I did some searching on the boards and came up with 4 pages worth of reasons to buy!

We're not going back to WDW until next summer, but at that time we'll go on the tour. By that time I can save a nice chunk of money to use to buy in (if there is anything to buy by then) to further push DH.

I just don't think Dh is going to be able to get over the maintenance fees. Do they increase at a much slower rate than the resort room prices? It seems that room costs keep getting higher and higher. While the maintence fees increase at a lower rate. I've seen those awesome charts that someone put together.

So do we have an good argument for those pesky fees?

I believe that MFs can only go up 3% per year. Someone just posted that regular room rates are going up 5 to 10% from 2005 to 2006. Don't forget. When you compare DVC rates to regular room rates, we do not have to pay taxes like you do if you stayed at regular hotel. Add another 13% to the hotel bill!

Part of the MFs go to property taxes. I'm not an accountant, but I believe you can write off that portion of your MFs.

Also, some people pay for DVC with home equity loans. If you did that, the interest is a deduction.
